    Waste line plumbing??

No harm in having a flexible pip for a waste line as long as it doesn't leak too. Why an automotive hose and not just get a flexible vinyl tubing from the plumbing section at Home Depot?

    Is this algae?

This is above the water line so it wouldn't make any impact on your test results. Spray some bleach into your coping cracks to see if it kills it. I get dirt accumulating in my coping cracks too. Also, your CYA is low for a SWG. I think it should be 60-70.

Polairs 280 - trying to trouble shoot pressure valve

Putting the pressure relief valve aside for now, when was the last time you did a rebuild on your 280? A few years ago mine was sputtering around and not climbing the walls or out of the deep end and once I did the rebuild, it was like I had a brand new cleaner. If replacing the relief valve...

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

You live in what is called dry heat. Your pool is going to have plenty of evaporation without having to spray water into the air. People who live in hot/humid climates will not get the same natural evaporation so the pool temp will slowly keep climbing until you hit water in the mid 90's. My...

Polairs 280 - trying to trouble shoot pressure valve

My pressure relief valve spits out a little bit of water when the booster pump is on, almost like a small leak. If it's spraying out a bunch of water then you have a crack in it and need a new one. The blue or red discs are normally necessary and will also make your booster pump quieter. If you...

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

This made me laugh out loud and my wife asked what I was laughing at. I said "oh just something on the pool forum" and I got a really puzzled and creeped out look. What is the equivalent term in Canada for redneck? Just asking...

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

As my 7th grade science teacher taught me "evaporation is a cooling process". The time in the air and total surface area of the droplets will dictate how much evaporation you can get for your climate. You normally want good air time (spray height) with medium sized droplets. If your droplets are...

Different return eyeball types - explanation needed

Is anyone able to educate me on the functional differences of the different types of return eyeballs? I currently have inconsistent flow among my 3 returns with the middle being the strongest, shallow end closest to the pump 2nd, and the deep end furthest from the pump is the weakest flow. I...

What are these strange numbers being used by someone in Houston? Don't you know that you should start seeing ice on the surface at 31 degrees?

    Alerts

I am finding the same issues. It is a disappointment to get on TFP after being absent for a few days to find no new alerts. It makes you feel like you need to work on your TFP social game. When I click on "threads with your posts", there are several threads with new comments which I am watching...

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

You can just take your threaded eyeball to the hardware store to find a pvc connector to match. I think 1.5 inches is pretty standard and you buy the corresponding pvc pipe and elbows to match. Although, I doubt someone in Manitoba would want to cool off their pool water...

    Redneck Evaporative Pool Cooler

I have my pvc pipe with drilled holes just hooked up to one of my returns. I just bought the same thread size as the eyeballs and got some elbows to get the configuration I wanted. Works well to reduce water temp and has a nice tranquil sound. Whenever we swim, I rotate it down to spray under...

    Tarp method in-place water replacement

The iron stains will come back and I do an AA treatment with water exchange every Spring. This was the first year I did the tarp for the water exchange so I would hope a 100% exchange would be improvements over previous years but my city water has iron in it. So good so far but I can see/notice...

    Tarp method in-place water replacement

I did this same method this Spring to do a water exchange right after AA treatment for iron. It was a lot of work but it actually worked out really well. Do not try this unless your tarp has a good 10 feet of extra width/length on all 4 sides. I had to shut off my pump periodically to allow my...

Estimating FC demand due to extra sunlight hours

I just had a large tree over my pool get some major trimming which is yielding approx 3 hours additional sunlight per day in the morning. These 3 hours are from 9-12 so it isn't going to be solar noon but still much more direct sunlight. If I used to have FC loss of 1-1.5 each day based on 5-6...

    Metal Stain Treatment Procedure

I deal with iron stains every year and while there are many different chemicals/materials you can use, I have always noticed the most improvement by doing a major water exchange immediately after AA treatment. I would assume the water in St Louis is pretty cheap, correct? I could spend $400 a...

green tint in algae free (pretty sure) pool help

Did you ever try the vitamin C test to see if it lifted the stain? The yellowish-brown tint in the picture looks like iron and the color of the pool has a hint of green due to it mixing with the blue in your liner. Drop in a couple vitamin C tablets to see if these lift the stain to see if it is...

    Polyfill use during AA treatment

The iron cannot be filtered out with something like polyfil because the microns are too small and just pass through. It has to precipitate to the many micro surfaces of the polyfil just like it would precipitate to your pool surfaces. The polyfil in your skimmer is going to have a much faster...

    Polyfill use during AA treatment

Here is another post which someone was spending a lot of money to try to get rid of iron stains. This may be worth reading to help your situation. https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/yellow-stains-on-liner.200079/

    Polyfill use during AA treatment

There are better threads on TFP, several at the top of this post, which document the use of polyfil for iron stains. I have very cheap city water so I have just found it to be a lot easier to do a major water exchange immediately after AA treatment to get the most improvement the fastest. The...

    Polyfill use during AA treatment

Yes, I currently have no signs of staining but they will reappear slightly by the end of the summer. I am never able to rid myself completely of iron stains, just keep them under control. My main success has always been a substantial water exchange immediately after AA treatment since my water...

How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

My new friend likes my TFP pool enough that he has been coming for a swim each night and leaving turds on the steps. This morning he must have forgot to set his alarm and got caught. He is about the size of a softball and is a super fast swimmer. It took me about 30 minutes chasing him with the...

    Trichlor and Liquid Chlorine experiment!?

Agree here with this statement. I haven't used 100% trichlor since my first year owning a pool when I was following pool store methods, prior to me finding TFP. I was doing full blast trichlor with the weekly bag of powdered "shock" (cal hypo) and I wasn't even testing for CYA then. I am shocked...

    Trichlor and Liquid Chlorine experiment!?

I use trichlor pucks all year as supplemental FC to dosing with bleach. I have always noticed that the CYA the PoolMath app says should accumulate over the summer is never even close. I normally start out each spring with CYA of 20 or 30 and the trichlor pucks give me free CYA over time but I...

    Problem with SLAM

Unless your CYA has doubled suddenly from 40 to 80, FC level of 30 is way too high for your SLAM and a vinyl liner. 40 CYA is supposed to be 16 FC for SLAM.
