    Removing Iron

While the water coming in will have less iron than what is currently in the pool, you will still have some iron. So what is your plan to remove the iron if you are not going to dump in sequestrant? Again, I am never able to rid myself of iron stains but minimize them and over a few months will...

    Removing Iron

What I also do in my process when the water is still cold (not April-October) is I cap all the returns to the pool and hook up the PVC contraption for all the water from the pump to force its way through the Polyfil. I then take a gallon of bleach and poke a tiny hole in the bottom so it is able...

    Removing Iron

Yes, I forgot that piece but I don't use much, or sometimes I skip it, because the sequestrant keeps the iron from precipitating to the tiny fibers of the Polyfil. When your fill water has iron, it is just a process of removing incremental amounts each time you go through the AA process. The...

    Removing Iron

Yes, that is some significant iron in your water. I get iron stains that gradually get more noticeable over time and do AA treatments a few times a year. What has worked the best for me is to immediately do a water exchange after AA treatment as I have pretty cheap water. I normally do this in...

    Removing Iron

Don't do this. It will just make all the iron precipitate and stain all the surfaces again.

    Ascorbic Acid Question

I buy mine off eBay. $27 for 2.2 lbs and free shipping. My pool is about the size of yours and lifting the stains normally takes about 2/3 of the bag. Make sure you get your FC down below 1 before applying and have the pump off for a good 30 minutes so it can freely sink along the edges.

    Not too sure about this…

I had "Santa" invest in a air compressor this past Christmas and I blew out the lines myself. Maybe $15 in attachments and there were bubbles streaming out of my main drain.

Does AA treatment affect CYA measurements?

I got the FC and ph in line and measured CYA again at 50. Still a bit higher than I was expecting as my last measurement was probably in December when I thought it was 40 but I could be remembering wrong. The reason I expected lower than 40 is because we got a significant amount of rain...

Does AA treatment affect CYA measurements?

I did an AA treatment yesterday and went to test my CYA before adding bleach to make sure I wasn't adding too much for stains to return immediately. The CYA reading was around 60 or 70 but I know that cannot be the case because I haven't even added any CYA yet this spring. It should be down...

    Vinyl Liner

That liner doesn't appear to be anywhere close to the side of the pool wall and I can only imagine it is sticking out pretty far if a hailstone moving vertically punched a hole in it. If it is tight like a drum on the sides but it is not immediately hitting the solid wall behind it, this dam is...

We Have a Winner! Pool of the Month (April 2023); Theme - Unique Pool Features

Thanks everyone! This is actually my regular setup after we had covered porch built during our renovation. I had to downgrade to 100" screen but I can still take down the projector to project on the side of the house for special occasions.

    2023 Bleach Prices

Julian date was 355 so only a month old. I would still take 6 month old bleach at those prices compared to what else I am seeing at HD and others.

    2023 Bleach Prices

I remember back in 2019 being able to buy a 25 lb bucket of trichlor pucks off eBay for about $50 with shipping included. The same company selling them on eBay now has them for $150 for a 25 lb bucket.

    2023 Bleach Prices

These certainly were not shipped from a DC with FedEx or UPS. I wasn't home when the jugs were delivered but they were all just sitting on my front porch without any boxes or labeling. I assume it was just a contractor/individual who loaded them into the back of their car from a store like...

The Physics of Freezing and Freeze Protection

How long does it take to unscrew the plugs in your pump(s) and filter? It takes me just a few minutes and then a few hours for my sand filter to drain completely. If you are not yet closing for the winter and are worried about a cold snap with temps only below freezing for 5-8 hours overnight...

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

I ended up checking Home Depot a few times per month to check the stock of the 2 stores close to me. When I would see a decent amount in stock, I would order 24-32 gallons for local delivery charge of $9. I didn't have to worry about getting old stock because whenever I saw the quantity in stock...

    There's a slow train's coming...

My idea avoids that part because the CO River doesn't touch California until after Lake Mead. Other states could make a fortune charging CA to deliver water to their doorstep. I am able to do a complete water exchange of 26,000 gallons for approx $150. I could sell you that same water for $400...

    There's a slow train's coming...

Seems like a good time to start talking about a water pipeline from the Mississippi River to Lake Mead. The MS River has approximately 100 trillion gallons per year and diverting only 1% would be enough to fill up Lake Mead to capacity in 3-6 years. You could also have a lot of fresh water to...

    Algae help!

Cloudy water is dead algae if after it was green and you are following SLAM instructions. Keep going with the process and backwash your filter frequently. Don't add any CYA while in SLAM as it will just require more chlorine to get the job done.

    Question about VSP and bubbles

A little air accumulates in the plumbing over time because it is on low. Once it goes to high, there is enough flow to flush out the air. As long as it is only for 15-30 seconds, this is normal.

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

I have never been to Smith Pools so I may have to check that out. I am going to start commuting downtown a couple days a week for work so their Southaven location won't be too far out of the way then. I have not been able to find any bleach at Home Depot and my Lowes just got in a few pallets so...

Pro's and Con's solar pool cover

I would like to add another PRO if you have trees near your pool. My solar cover collects almost all the stuff falling from the trees during spring bloom. Before I remove it 1-2 times per week, I use my pool brush to sweep everything into the skimmer. It doesn't trap everything but does help a...

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

Looks like Home Depot is finally listing the pool bleach online and it is $18 for a 4-gallon pack which comes to $4.50 a gallon. It doesn't show specific inventory yet and says "visit your local store" but at least that price is a lot more reasonable compared to Lowes. That $4.50 per gallon...

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

Who do you think you are bringing actual logic to this ranting? :p The wife is against a SWCG because she thinks her pool is going to start tasting like the ocean. I will have to put together some taste test experiments to show her that the minimum salt level for a SWCG is going to be barely...

    2022 Bleach Prices - Yikes!

I doesn't appear anyone has started a thread like this in a couple years. My local Lowes just got in their first pallets of the Pool Essentials 10% bleach and the price is a whopping $5.98 per gallon. Yikes!!! Lowes was a little higher than HD or WM for bleach but still this is basically a 100%...
