    Problem with SLAM

The first thing I would change is to open it sooner than mid-May. You can help slow the growth of any organics with the colder water and have plenty of time to be patient before it is warm enough to swim. You can leave the cover on to keep out Crud from the trees during bloom and block the...

    Cracks, seeping, and growth

Have you contacted your pool builder with it only being 2 years old? How much water are you losing per day/week and are there any visible cracks on the inside of the pool walls? I don't have a ton of experience but I have never seen a gunite pool build this way with so much exposed above ground...

39 gallons and 3 weeks into SLAM and it won't get clear :(

You need to be brushing the heck out of the algae spots. The algae will get killed by the FC much faster when it is stirred up in the pool. Use a leaf net to get the big/medium leaves out. The FC is going to be fighting the organics in your water and algae/leaves are organics.

    Towel storage ideas for outside

I think I am going to buy this one from Home Depot. I need a prep area anyway for grilling and it would match the deck boxes we already have. I like the idea of the cooler as this would be a good seal to keep out bugs but the wife would not like the look of it. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Towel storage ideas for outside

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for ideas which would also keep towels dry from the rain. To be able to store them all the time when they are clean from the dryer.

    Towel storage ideas for outside

Anyone have any creative ideas for storing your pool towels outside near the pool? I don't have a screened in porch or anything and we have tried one of those plastic storage boxes/benches but ants got into it. We have and use a ton of towels during the week and lugging them up/down stairs all...

    Maybe a Leak?

Dropping only 1.5 inches in 11 days is not much at all. Most people with a leak/hole in their liner will lose an inch per day. I realize you have the solar cover on so there shouldn't be much evaporation but your water temperature is much higher than your average air temp. Hard to do the bucket...

How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

@Texas Splash Should we start a thread like this but make it a competition for the worst green swamp ever seen? Some of the swamps posted on TFP are jaw dropping and people are shocked to see how a pool could get that bad. Sometimes no fault to the poster when the buy a house with an abandoned...

Look, completely clear pool without even thinking about TFP methods... I just refill my smaller pool from tap each time.

When and how long to run pump.

All pool pumps are designed to be run 24/7 but pools do not need to be run 24/7 at maximum rpm/power. VS pumps are intended to keep the water circulating all the time while greatly reducing the energy consumption and are programmable to set a schedule. A pool pump only needs to run at a high RPM...

When and how long to run pump.

If you have a VS pump, you could run it all the time on the lowest rpm if you would like. Put your pool/equipment details into your signature as I cannot tell if you have a SWG, which would be relevant to this topic. If your water is crystal clear and your chemicals balanced, you are just mixing...

    Upgraded and now overwhelmed

You need to get a good test kit and stop using the test strips when you have a problem. A blue, cloudy pool is better than a green, cloudy pool but you aren't there yet. You will need to be patient with it and over time it will get very easy to maintain, using TFP as your pool bible of course...

    Yellow stains on liner

I removed the puck. Makes sense about the ph and I thought this may be the case when I put it in. I was willing to give it a try.

    Yellow stains on liner

Water exchange right after AA has been the only thing to make a major difference for me. I don't think 30% is going to make the impact you are looking for and seeing how fast your stains are returning, I would shoot for 75% or more. Adding water after pumping it out is just diluting so do it all...

Clear solar cover or full sun?

Look at your dew point compared to air temp to see how much of a difference there is. If there is a small difference, you won't have much evaporation. Assuming your pool water is close to the air temp in the afternoon, if the dew point is low compared to the air temp, you will have a lot of...

    Yellow stains on liner

Just of note, I don't normally keep trichlor pucks in my skimmer because I know they are acidic but that doesn't matter on top of the polyfill that I'm just going to throw away. I do use trichlor pucks in my feeder throughout the summer on the lowest setting as supplemental FC but do all my...

    Yellow stains on liner

Here is what I have in my skimmer right now. Lightly but completely stuffed with polyfill and a trichlor puck sitting on top. The trichlor usually dissolves over a day or two and in theory, it makes the water higher with FC right as it flows through the polyfill. I still have the solar cover...

    Yellow stains on liner

While I am not going to be able to explain all the chemistry like you all can, where is the step for removing the iron? I know I personally wouldn't be able to sustain the precise chemical levels discussed here and the iron still remains for potential staining. This will take time but shouldn't...

    Leaking somewhere

Get your snorkel and mask ready. Get some food coloring and with the pump turned off, dive down and squirt a little near the spot to see if it gets sucked into it. I just had a leak losing over an inch of water per day which took me 3 weeks to find a cut about half an inch long. The cut was due...

New Liner and water already turning on me

Our city water in Memphis comes from a giant aquifer which is another name for well water for the entire city. It has iron in it and I have been dealing with iron stains for the 4 years I have owned the pool. I do an AA treatment and 50% water exchange every year, even with my brand new liner...

    Yellow stains on liner

Remember what I mentioned about the plumbing having iron stains which can be released into the pool during AA? I am dealing with a small leak and had to drain the water down below the returns. This is what the inside of my plumbing looks like. Once you get to the point of widespread iron...

That kit has the products you have already tried, correct? The only exception is their algaecide contains copper. The CuLator packs work to remove metals over time but didn't you already buy one of these? I have a lot of oak trees dumping leaves and Crud into my pool, especially in April at...

    Yellow stains on liner

So what is your plan to remove the iron? 4 hours with a little polyfill is not going to put a dent into it. You either need to do a water exchange of at least 50% right after AA has lifted the stains or invest time into letting the polyfill absorb the metals. If your fill water is going to have...
