High filter pressure and pump won't prime

Is the gauge stuck on 20psi? It could be broke, take the gauge off, if it does not go back to 0, then it definitely is.

High filter pressure and pump won't prime

Is there a way to rig it up so that you can suck through a jet and blow through the skimmer with the pump? My brother had his filter connected backwards before and it does work, although incorrectly. Maybe you could blow the obstruction out. Either that or you may have a broken pipe which...

I am starting to hate this thing!

I do not have an intex, nor have I ever had one. But one thing seems to be certain. Having a proper pump and filter will go a long way towards making your maintenance tasks easier. A good test kit is key to doing this maintenance yourself. Knowing about water chemistry will help alot in...

do all couples fight about pool maintenance?

One thing I will throw out there, you can drain with a pump, and you can drain with garden hoses. If you toss a garden hose into the pool, connect it to the spigot, and start water through it. Once water is coming through it, turn off water, and disconnect hose. Then just take it and toss it...

Rained over weekend, huge mess, aching back!

Around here we have companies that have a suck truck. They are called Hydro Excavators, what it is, it they have a truck with a hose on a boom that is about 8" diameter and can easily suck up mud. It may cost you a couple grand, but it is very controllable and they would probably get it close...

Please welcome our new Jr. Admin...

Programmers are an asset, that is for sure. Congrats man, hope Sean doesn't bother you too much... :P Good work to the mods and Sean for keeping things hopping in here. I have seen many forums die from neglect, and this one is still going strong.

    Flock or Drain???

If there is a run off problem, maybe you will need to channel the water away from the pool somehow. If the yard pitches in to the pool, then some sort of ditch is a good idea. Even a low swail to direct the water away to some other area... If this is going to be a recurring problem it will be...

Switching from trichlor to BBB, how much bleach to add daily

Not anymore, but last year it was. I made the switch to 12.5% at the end of last season, and this season is really not here yet. It is sleeting today... Plus, I have had a swamp to clear up, which is almost there, just a bit cloudy now. But if you just test daily, and read your results, go...

Switching from trichlor to BBB, how much bleach to add daily

I have an 8600 gallon pool, and I would estimate that I use a bit less than a quart a day. My brother has a 27000 gallon pool and he says he uses about three quarts a day.

The price of chlorine in the US?

Where at in New Lenox? I go to Great Escape at I-55 and Rt. 30 and get like 4 gallons of 12.5% for around $9 or so? New Lenox isn't a bad drive for me.

The actually have round blocks for building manholes. You should be able to get them from a supply yard for tanks, septic systems or something.

    Cloudy pool - test results

I would think that if you drain about 10% a week, it would use more water to reach a desired CYA level than if you just drained 50% and got it over with. You can drain it using several garden hoses so long as you have some place lower in your yard than the midpoint of the pool, which it looks...

1st Test with TF Test Kit

I personally do not dump the Bleach or the Muratic Acid down the skimmer. I dump them in front of my return jet and let them slowly mix with the water.

Concrete cutting - do it myself?

This is more the kind of saw I am talking about. I have used the electric ones before, and if I remember correctly, the blade spun backwards so the saw was always wanting to push back towards you. You can get saws like the one above with 16" blades, and I believe that they will cut 6 3/4...

Concrete cutting - do it myself?

If you score the line first, then make several passes you can very easily keep the cut fairly straight. Walk behind saws are not necessarily easier to control. They can easily be turned off course, and getting it straight again can be a mess. If you stick the blade, that can be a mess too...

    Well, here is my question

One of the advantages I could see to doing that is that the pea gravel would surround the lateral fins and keep sand from infiltrating into your pool in the event that a crack were to occur somehow. I don't imagine that it would affect filtering at all. I sort of like the sounds of it, and if...

Pool toys and something to hold them or store them in?

When ours are not in the water, they are around the pool, in the yard, and possibly even the neighbors yard. But I get sick of it, and I actually keep them in our shed all the time. I will probably get to making it better and easier to store it all this year. Right now, basically I have a...

    Depth of Skimmers

If the level of the deck surrounding the pool does not remain constant, and the level of the skimmers in relation to the water is the same, it sounds good to me.
  22. S

    Depth of Skimmers

The one I have on my pool is about 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the water. If one is correct and the other is below the water, then the one below the water is not going to be doing much skimming. Why can the one in the shallow end not be 12" down from the surface as well Edit I am no pool builder...

    Depth of Skimmers

Would one skimmer not be totally submerged at that rate?
  24. S

Auto refill - can you explain?

I don't have an auto leveler, but I would imagine that the water in the pool would be the same level as the level of the water in the auto leveler canister. If you try to drain the water in there without blocking the hole into the pool you will essentially be draining it too. So, the question...

    "Hover" Post preview

Have you given any thought to implementing some sort of option where if I were to hover over the link to a post, it would pop up with a preview of the topic? I haven't any idea how it works, if it is only with certain Board Software or anything, but I love the option.

    Skimmer Diverter

I just had all of the fittings, got them for free, and the pipe and trim I have had lying around forever. It works awesome. The only thing is that I will either replace the trim with something routed with no sharp corners, or else remove it when the kids are in the pool.

    Skimmer Diverter

In the process of cleaning my pool, I remembered how last year I wanted to get something that would divert the floating stuff into the skimmer basket rather than it just circling endlessly around forever. So this year, I made one, out of some PVC, and a bit of trim. This also shows...

NINE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TWO UNREAD POSTS!?!?!?!

When it comes time to get a new computer I will probably get a mac. Back filling around an AGP?

Maybe a limestone based material may not be a good idea though. I have seen it corrode metals (watermains) pretty quickly. Maybe it would be ok for a pool, I don't know what the walls are made of and what sort of reactions take place.
