How does my Rainbow Chrlorinator (Holds 10 x 3" Tabs) work??

Acid is to help remove the calcium bond from the plaster, so it is a smoother surface when it fully cures. Once there's plenty of acid in there (e.g. 8 gallons to 10,000 gallon pool) the pH will be like 7.0 but when you brush the walls and what not, it will become quite smooth and remove brush...

How does my Rainbow Chrlorinator (Holds 10 x 3" Tabs) work??

I think he is saying high CYA levels will kill my CH and initially my plaster needs CH to become strong??? *shrug* *whooosh* This is over my head now.. :) I am making sure I have not too low or too high of a pH - cannot test CYA or CH yet... YET.. :)

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Oh, I thought it raised it.. So if Trichlor is slowly lowering my pH (I'm sure it is very slow, over time), then it may in fact counteract the pH rise due to aeration (also slow), right? This assumes they are constant, which they won't hardly be often, and also assumes I don't switch to Liquid...

How does my Rainbow Chrlorinator (Holds 10 x 3" Tabs) work??

Thanks Jason. Is there a clear correlation between the # setting on the dial and the outputted FC PPM level? Like, is a 3 on there going to be 1.5ppm or 3ppm? Mine was at 3 and I moved it down to 1.5 the other day, but I still have just as much FC (Residual Chlorine)... ???

How does my Rainbow Chrlorinator (Holds 10 x 3" Tabs) work??

First off, no comments about BBB or Liquid Chlorine... :) I know Trichlor adds CYA but I need that right now - my CYA is low as this is a brand new pool. ANYWAYS, how does this Rainbow thing work? I read the manual and it was no help. Fundamentally, what I'm trying to get my hands around is...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

This morning's pH was 7.8 and TA was 85ppm, so the Baking Soda is doing its job... I put a few more oz of Baking Soda in and also tossed in a bit more acid. Hopefully it will be 100ppm/7.5 by the end of today. Wheee!!! I understand the year-long curing process and also aeration.. But next...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

I am wondering if there is something, easy (read: not acid), I can do to automagically make my pH trickle down lower, to counteract the aeration and keep it mostly level in the 7.5 area... ???

    When to shock??

Would I ever want to shock it when CC is less than 0.5ppm? (CC should ideally be 0 all the time, right?)

    When to shock??

Hehehe.. ok.. My friend shocks his pool weekly and uses aglicide and doesn't do much else. He tests weekly. He also uses hella Diclor and doesn't know why I'm sure.. *shakes head* :) Thanks for the info, now know I what to test for.. Once my TF100 test kit arrives.. Regards, Kevin

    When to shock??

This may be a dumb question, but when would I need/want to shock my pool with high amounts of CL?? Is the answer: When I set green things floating or a tinge of green in the water ?? In the summer, someone on here said they shock once a week... EEEK!!

    Very Interesting Member Issue

Have him try WITHOUT the mask and see what happens.. I bet it's the rubber or dyes in the mask... Oh and if the mask is too tight (usually the case as you're trying to create a SEAL right?) then it could be crushing dozens of blood vessels beneath the surface of the skin. It will heal, but may...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Yes, it is a big jump, but my plaster is less than 4 weeks old, and I just added some tap water and also according to the poolcalculator.com, Baking Soda *DOES* raise the pH slightly. Here's some specs on my pool, btw... I've done a LOT of calculations on the amount of water, and I usually...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Yes, my pH was showing 8.2 this morning. But also poolcalculator.com says "Adding baking soda will also raise your PH." so....... Also, I guess it is just still quite volatile, as the plaster finishes curing especially, and because the TA is/was still so low.. Hopefully now that the TA is up...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Another update... I now have 6lbs + another 8 today, and I'm at 80ppm this afternoon. It may change some more over the next few hours, so I will hold off until tomorrow to re-test and hopefully finish up the last 20ppm to reach my goal of 100ppm. I need to add some Acid though because of all...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Actually, that is the kind of reply I was looking/hoping for!! Thanks!! I think it is all beginning to make sense now, and I'm glad I am fixing TA before messing with pH.. BTW, my pH is perfect today all by itself.. but I think another couple days of Baking Soda could change that. Ditto with...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Well, I did 2/3, 6lbs instead of 9lbs.. It was all I had - need to go back to the store.. This morning my TA took 5 drops (vs. before it was 3) to make the color change as per the instructions. So that means my TA is now 5 x 10ppm = 50ppm!! WOOHOO, IT IS WORKING!! Only another 50ppm to go...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Roger that.. And just to confirm, even if the pool calculator says something like toss in 139oz (9lbs) of baking soda, I should do it, right?!?!?

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

Thanks for the reply Jason!! My OTO kit has a TC test like you said, but it also has the TA test, I was referring to. My TA test turns it blue and it goes to yellow. It says in the book some go blue->yellow some go green->red. It depends on the model apparently. In any event, I need to bump my...

    TA Test showing only 30ppm?

I just did my OTO test for TA (Total Alkalinity) and I added 3 #3 drops to get it to light yellow. The fourth did nothing more, so I guess the result is 3. That means 3 x 10ppm = 30ppm according to the chart and instructions. But does this mean my TA is LOW or HIGH??? I mean, do I have 30ppm...
