High pH Low Alkalinity. What to do?

Thanks but with my pH being 8.1 and my alkalinity being 56 if I try to bring the pH down it's going to push my alkalinity down even further. If i try to bring my alkalinity up it pushes my pH up. I don't understand how I can adjust one without affecting the other. PS my plaster is 6 weeks...

Hi All. I'm having a dilemma. My pH is reading 8.1 and my alkalinity is reading 56, how in the world do I get these two reading in sync. When I raise or lower one the other is adversly affected. I have a 30,000 gallon in ground pool with new plaster.

So what did you do to be able to finally give you that free chlorine reading? What was the reason for the chlorine not showing up on your test kit?

    Easy Acid

Re: On the package it says in contains Sodium Hydrogen Sulfate. Is this the same as Sodium Bisulfate? I tried it and it seemd to work in bringing down the TA without affecting the pH much. My TA came down 30ppm and my pH went down from 7. 5 to 7.2

Beware of the Law of Unintended Consequences.....Glowbuoy

I had something similar happen to me when I had my above ground pool. I live near a nature protected area and have quite a few little creatures running around and after the pool went up I started to notice little dents and channels on the floor of the pool, mostly near the edge where the floor...

    Paint over a plastered pool?

I was quoted $8500 for a replaster job and that is why I was thinking about paint. The pool surface is not in bad shape at all so with some good prep work I think it would look nice. I cant imagine a paint job would be near $8500 but you never know. Now that I know it's possible I'll see whats...

    Paint over a plastered pool?

Hi all! I was wondering if it's possible to paint over a plastered pool? The pool is about 18 years old, In Ground and looking kind of dingy. I don't want to spend the money on a replaster job so I was wondering if it's possible to just fix any surface imperfections and just paint over...

    Chlorine Lock Causes?

Yes I am using trichlor only because I need a slow release form of chlorine. I'm away a lot. My CYA does get rather high by the end of the season. A SWCG is my next investment to the pool. OK this is starting to make sense to me. Yes my CYA level was very high when I closed last year. I...

My testing over the last 2 weeks says my TC levels ranged from 3ppm to over 10ppm for a couple days at a time but nothing in the FC levels. I've taken my water to...

    Yellow Stain appeared

I just went out and tried both treatments you suggested and it didn't seem to have any effect. Could my high CYA levels be hampering my attempts at cleaning off this stain?

    Yellow Stain appeared

Hi everyone and thanks for all the great advice, I recently had a pink algae problem and had a hard time getting rid of it, I shocked the pool and it disappeared but came right back so i went to the pool store and bought some "Pink Treat" from united chemistry and followed it up with 2 lbs...

    Winter Chemicals

I was under the impression that having chlorine in your pool damages the cover due to the gassing off of the chlorine. This may not be an issue with just a tarp type cover but with an expensive safety cover I'd want it to last a long time so I keep the chlorine out of the pool while it's...

    Phosphate problems

Thanks Jason. I've been pouring chlorine in my pool by the boatload and still can't get any readings on my test kits or the ones at the pool store. Could the phosphates be locking up my chlorine? This has been like this all summer! I do live right next to a farm that does a lot of planting and...

Is my lawn affecting my chemistry?

OK I think I got it, thanks for all th replies and help. The pool guy did suggest to keep shocking until we can hold a free chlorine reading but I wanted to check with you guys first. He mentioned a "chlorine demand test" but I have no idea what that is or how to do it. It's supposed to tell you...

Is my lawn affecting my chemistry?

The test kit is new and expires 2009. I've taken my water to 2 pool stores as well and got the same reading. I have shocked my pool with 8 lbs. of Burnout Extreme twice and have gotten a very high TC reading but my FC always reads 0. I do use a chlorininator which I keep full and the tabs are...

Is my lawn affecting my chemistry?

I've had an IG pool fro 3 years now and never had a problem holding free chlorine, this year has been very different. My water is clear and all of my other levels are fine but my TC and FC levels are zero. A pool store employee asked me if I had a lawn service and if I do he thinks some of the...
