New Pool Build in Apache Junction AZ

Hmmm, I wonder what kind of bribe would be needed to get you to come down to Tucson when mine's finished...

How to replace main drain and line to main drain?

It is a huge project, and my question would be do you need a main drain? Lots of pools don't have them and they work just fine. My pool originally had the main drain plumbed to my skimmer, and I never used it, partially because I didn't have (or even know about) a skimmer diverter valve. During...

Skimmer plug had to come out last night. Didn't want to buy a larger basin wrench, so I got creative. Water meter valve key plus torch equals custom plug key. Ran another hose from a hose bib on the house to speed up the fill a little. Getting close!

For sure! Was tempting to jump in at the end of the day yesterday even though it wasn't full or balanced yet.

    Need Help -Houston

Ah, I think I remember your other thread now. Not that it really matters, but it's unlikely that's a cold joint, especially if it was shot instead of formed in place. When two pieces of concrete set at different times fail at the contact it's usually blamed on a cold joint, but in my experience...

    Need Help -Houston

Can you describe the issues? I'm not in Houston, and don't work on pools (other than my own), but I do QA/QC for shotcrete (gunite) in underground mines as part of my job. It's possible I could give a little guidance or perspective if I knew more about the situation.

    Conduit size

I'm assuming future wires would be for outdoor use requiring GFCI protection? If so, I would avoid using 12-3 wired for multiple circuits sharing a neutral. It can be done, but it's a hassle to do it right and meet code, and will be much more prone to "nuisance" trips. Much better and easier to...

    Conduit size

As others have said, think about what you'll be using them for, and then size appropriately. I like to look at the fill charts and then use less than half the maximum. I'm too cheap/lazy to replace all 130' of 1/2" conduit going to my pool area, and am currently pulling 10-3 through it. It's a...

Light acid wash yesterday morning, followed by start of fill using bicarb method. I used a 15 gal drum thinking it would be fine due to the relatively small quantity of bicarb required. Unfortunately the small drum size allowed a lot of bicarb to get into the pool before it had dissolved, so...

Plaster applied this morning. It's a variation of Stonescapes mini pebble Tahoe Blue, used 8 bags of gold and 4 of black per batch instead of 10 and 2. Also only used ~1/3 of the dye. Exposed the pebble with only water. Will do a super light acid wash tomorrow, and then start filling using the...

I would contact Inyopools and ask them. They can usually figure these things out, and good chance they'll have the part. Could it be this gasket? Pentair Gasket (05103-0101) - INYOPools.com

Need Help - Remodel Glass Tile

When shotcrete/gunite is applied, some of the particles bounce off and land elsewhere. This is called rebound, and is waste material, but some (too many) pool builders scoop it up and use it to form the tops/corners of steps, benches, spa walls, etc. And I agree with Brian, looks like they...

After several delays, it sounds like we'll finally be getting plaster this weekend! Going with a custom color mini-pebble, similar to what I've seen described here as reverse Tahoe. Plaster guy likes the bicarb start-up idea and will allow me to handle it all without any impact to the...

    New Quartz Plaster Stains

If it's something that got onto the surface, like lawn fertilizer, then the vitamin C trick mentioned above should take care of it. If there's pyrite in the plaster aggregate (or another iron sulphide mineral), then the stains will just keep coming back, and the solution might be chipping out...

    New Quartz Plaster Stains

Hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing there was some sort of iron sulphide mineral (likely pyrite) in the aggregate mix used to plaster the pool.
