I like the channel idea, although I'm not totally sold on the channel through the middle of my lawn. I could route it to the existing drain box, which helps for aesthetic consistency. Then it'd just be up and over the coping. Frankly, I'm leaning towards a cheapish battery robot, though...

I did the same when my original wall whale brush started losing bristles. I now have it on a stainless brush. I also lost the adjustable stop clip thing over the years. At some point I need to try to model it and 3d print a new one.

Ahultin, it was mounted flat -- with the leds pointing straight up. Great find on the motor! It was my intention to try replacing it, but I hadn't gotten around to searching... It's cheap enough on Amazon to just give it a whirl. I'll let you know what happens in a few weeks when it gets in.
