    Superchlorinate or Shock with Bleach

I'm going to play my rookie card again! "Clear" means clear like water and not clear, no pink? I have a 1 drop difference between the point where I fail to see pink any more (it looks like water with a drop of milk in it) and "clear" like water.

    TF100 pH test vs. K-2006

I have no comparison to make but my DPD powder in my TF100 is granular and gray-purple too. The results I get (when not over 5.0) seem comparable with the Ortho test so I assumed it was working fine.

    Superchlorinate or Shock with Bleach

KurtV - I don't want you to throw away your theory that quickly. I'm a rookie at this testing thing so there's a strong chance that you are still on the money! :-D When I tested this morning I paid close attention to the drops and colors. I add the DPD to the pool water sample - it turns...

    Superchlorinate or Shock with Bleach

Thanks KurtV. I have always followed the "one additional drop" method and yesterday & today's test were the first times that I've ever registered any CC. I'll see how it goes over the next few days. Thanks again all! :)

    Superchlorinate or Shock with Bleach

Thanks again TFP experts! :) Yep - I can hold FC overnight... getting rid of the stuff when the sun goes in for a day is my problem! I know, nice problem to have! :-D I will add more CYA today and try not to be too premature on the shocking! Cheers

    Superchlorinate or Shock with Bleach

Thanks crazycanuck I do have a low bather load so I will hold off on the shock until the CC tests at 1.0 and then hit it with the bleach. I am having problems maintaining a consistent FC level with my SWCG. I am using the FAS-DPD test daily to try and get an accurate result and adjust the...

    Test strips

Hi TizMe I'm really new at this pool thing. First time pool owner this season. I started testing a few times a week with the AquaChek Select Test Strips when my pool was built. Taking the water to my pool store for "more accurate" testing every couple of weeks. Well it turns out that...

    Superchlorinate or Shock with Bleach

Folks I've got a new SWCG pool that's coming up on requiring it's first shock for Combined Chlorine (No Algae) I have read in other posts that the superchlorinate function of the SWCGs can reduce the effective lifespan of the cell and that it may just be best to hit the pool with regular bleach...

My Pentair Legend Platinum sucks... no really, it sucks

Folks, this is my first post on the HW side of forums. It's been all chemicals and numbers to this point.... I feel I've learnt a whole heap of stuff from the chemistry buffs out there but now need some advice on a small equipment issue I have. When my pool was finished, back in March, my pb...

    Adjusting CSI with temperature?

Trying to stay half a step ahead of the game; I was wondering what to do as the pool cools off this fall and winter. I'm in TX so I'm not going to close it but have noticed that as the pool temp falls my balanced numbers now: pH 7.5 FC 5 CC 0 TC 5 TA 90 CH 340 CYA 40-50 Salt 4400 Temp...

    Do my #'s look okay?

Dave - Thanks for the compliment, I couldn't have got this far without the help of those on this forum and my TF100! As for MA being a way of life I guess I was harboring naive dreams of owning a pool sprinkling a little aqua-sparkle dust every week and adding a few drops of pool-be-clean every...

    Do my #'s look okay?

Hi Joyce Checking in to see how you are getting on. My numbers are still pretty stable except for my pH. TA is falling slowly too I guess. I didn't get any comments on the features so after a second week of adding a gallon of MA in 7 days... I have decided to turn both the fountain in the spa...

    Low Alkalinity

Sammm - just for peace of mind. I'm in the DFW area too, have similar numbers and a low TA. It don't help you much but at least you know you're not alone! :-D

    Salty Slip-up

Thanks! Rusty kids would get me in the bad book with the missus!

    Salty Slip-up

Thanks pooladdict - My SWCG is humming along beautifully, in fact it was working so well that it was my rocketing FC that prompted me to test the salt level. :-D I was concerned that the high salt level would start to rust/corrode small children or more important things like heater coils...

    Salty Slip-up

I made a bit of a mathamalogical error in my salt/bags/weight/volume calculation and as opposed to topping my salt levels off at 3500ppm I nuked it to 4400ppm   I know it will gradually come back down on it's own but what damage am I doing in the mean time? FC 5.5 CC 0 Ph 7.5...

    TA rising along with pH?

chazas - That's a Dang big pool! I would not worry about your SWCG producing too much. I have the same problem, if you can call it that. I am now down to running at 20%, 10 hours a day and it keeps my FC in balance with a CYA of 50.

    Do my #'s look okay?

Joyce Thanks for the comments. The pool is now good and my pb even sent me a new pole to replace the one I'd bent when I was needlessly scrubbing the scale that would never have come off! :) My only problem is still the rising pH - how are you getting on with yours? Today's numbers: FC 9 CC...

    Raging Chlorine!

Folks As a result of reading chemgeek's FC/CYA sticky I feel that I have to raise my FC from the usual 2ppm up into the 5-7 range. Reading that people had issues maintaining higher levels of chlorine especially in sunnier climates (I'm in North Texas) I jacked up my SWCG fairly high thinking...

    Scale Problem

I had similar issues and posted my problem in this thread some of the responses may be of use. I lowered my pH under 6.2 for 5 days and scrubbed twice daily for about 45 mins each time until I bent my pole..... ... I still ended up draining and acid washing the pool. Interestingly my local...

    Chlorine/CYA Chart

Folks I'm a little confused and wonder if you could clarify. Pentair say to run the intelliflow SWCG with 2ppm FC and CYA at 70ppm Using the table above and referring to note 3 I should keep the FC at a minimum level of 3.15 with CYA of 70ppm and I would guess target it somewhere around...

    Do my #'s look okay?

Yes Joyce... thanks for posting! I have new plaster too and am fighting the pH daily - you are not alone! ;) Thanks to others for their responses too. I added enough acid to take my pH down to 7.2 (theoretically) this morning. My TA is slowly coming down and that should also help. I'm going...

    Do my #'s look okay?

Jason - would you recommend that in most cases? I have a slightly high TA of about 130 and as a result of SWCG and water features find that my pH is hardest to control. Right now I am adding about 3 cups of acid almost every day to bring a 15000 gal pool down from 7.8 to 7.5.... would you...

Scale coating over the whole pool

Well folks it looks like the acid washing worked. When the pool was drained I had so much scale it was obvious that there would have been no other way of getting it off. The results are not 100% but I'm back down to a CH of 140 (needs work I know) and most of the scale is gone. I went from...

    Empty pools & hydrostatic pressure?

400 gal/min, 3" Trash pump for the day - $48..... Good will acid wash from your friendly, local (but in no way responsible for how we got into this situation) pool builder - $0... .... Getting most of the scale off the pool, refilling it with water that has CH < 650 without the thing popping...

    Empty pools & hydrostatic pressure?

nocaster, How deep does the hole/pipe go? If it's as deep as your pool, then possibly. If it's anywhere from 8"-18" deep then maybe just a pool umbrella sleve? Thanks Mark. Am not planning on leaving the pool empty more than a few hours... as long as it takes to acid wash.My pb said we start...

    Empty pools & hydrostatic pressure?

Thanks for all the replies folks: After reading what's written here, speaking with a few local pool companies and weighing up my options, I'm going to do it this weekend. Fingers crossed - I'll update you on Sunday! @ EskimoPie - It rained through out the entire construction process...
