Signing Contract soon! Central Nebraska Pool Build

I haven’t updated in a while, but we got the decking poured just in time for the weekend. That left me with a huge amount of overspill in the pool. I used the dolphin to get most of it, then played a game of rock diving with the kids. They pulled out most of the rocks that the dolphin missed. We...

Struggling with algae but decent numbers

Your CYA climbs each year because of the use of tabs. Tabs add CYA to the water and it stays in the water. It is not normal to have to drain every 12-18 months because of high CYA, unless you are adding CYA as part of your chlorination routine. Stick to bleach or get a SWCG and you won't have...

I didn’t even think about the kids handprints. If they want to, which they probably will, I’d like that. I remember doing that as a kid when my pop installed a basketball hoop.

    Recommendations on Sprinkler Heads

I've built several sprinkler systems, whether for me or helping out friends. I exclusively use Hunter heads. As to their spray type heads, they have several models that can be adjusted from 0 degrees to 360 degrees simply by twisting the top.

Thank you both. Yes, it’s been impossible to keep the kids out of the pool. At this point I’ve stopped trying and just let them swim.

We got the plumbing done and the pump fired up last night. So happy to finally have filtration. The water was getting a bit cloudy. I talked the contractor into allowing me to manage chemistry from here. I loaded up 30 ppm of CYA last night via the sock method. It’s now done dissolving. Brought...

    3+ Weeks of Cloudy Water

SLAM - Shock, Level, Maintain. Maintain is the part that you are missing. To pass a SLAM, you must keep FC at SLAM level until you pass three tests. 1 - CC is .5 or lower 2 - Pass an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test 3 - Water is completely clear Clarifiers are not needed. Chlorine, at SLAM...

New (to us) Home with In Ground Pool

@mknauss has a method for exchanging water without draining. I don't know if his method would be suitable for HOT days in Arizona. Perhaps he will chime in.

Floor is finished and the liner is installed. I absolutely love the liner. Our contractor tried to talk us out of this liner because he had never installed it before but once it was installed and started filling he told me he wished more of his customers would choose this liner because he...

Draining pool to reduce CYA, replacing water, then SLAMing

Knowing that your PH has been historically low and your CYA is off the charts high, it begs the question. How have you been adding chlorine in the past? If you were using Trichlor pucks, they are acidic and will lower PH. That could be the reason you had low PH and when you stop using them...

To test your fill water, just pull water from your tap and test it, unless you’re gonna have water trucked in. Skip CYA because it will be zero.

Yep. Looks like a full water exchange. You’ll thank yourself for doing it. Water with CYA that high is completely unmanageable due to the high chlorine it will demand.

Your CYA may be well over 200. You can do the diluted CYA test and see if that gets you a more valid number. I’m not good with links, but search for the TF100 extended directions. It looks like you’ve probably found the reason that the previous owner was going to do a drain/refill. You’re going...

If it was me, I would use pool math to calculate the size of pool you have. Then I would add 3-4 ppm liquid chlorine to the pool each day until your kit arrives. Once it arrives, post a full set of test results.

What is your CYA? Nobody can tell whether your FC level is adequate without knowing your CYA.

Hopefully, the water is in a decent balance but I would doubt it. Rest assured that when your kit arrives and you can do your own testing the folks here will be able to take you through whatever needs to be done in order to make that pool trouble free for you. Have you studied pool school and...

Welcome to the forum. Good job on the test kit. It'll save you headaches, money and give you peace of mind that you can manage your water correctly. Do you know anything about how the pool was maintained before you bought the house? If not, I would certainly recommend getting a CYA test...

Yes, you can switch to bleach. Just be sure to test daily in the beginning so you can get a handle on the amount of loss you have per day.

What do I do with all the used sand?

If you have a basement. Spread it out in your window wells. It’ll do a fine job of preventing weeds from growing.
