Hi James, Welcome to TFP. For help with your pool chemistry, you've certainly come to the right place. As is evidenced by the pool store recommendation to add scale remover, they are only looking at removing the symptom, and not the fundamental issue of why it happened to begin with. Our goal...

    Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus

Hey Jim. Even tho Ive worked mine pretty hard and she needs a little refreshing, shes still kicking as hard as she always did. Im gonna go ahead and get a new robot next spring tho. I think I will go ahead and put some new scrubbers on the old gal tho just in case I need a backup some day.

    Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus

Marty, how often the filters need to be cleaned depends on how dirty the pool gets. I pull mine out every few days and do that, then right back in ti goes. And the robots dont have any exposed metal on them. I can tell ya though, that I am of the opinion that leaving them in the water for...

    Dolphin Nautilus CC Plus

I have the original Nautilus. I'm on year 6 with it and I use it at least 300 days a year. Sometimes i even run it more than once a day and it stays in the pool 70% of the time. The ole gal is wearing down though. The foam climbing rings are worn out and one broke off, and the scrubbers...

Sand vs DE vs Cartridge vs reality

Differences in maintenance aside, the only difference in the context of the discussion is the size of the particles that are claimed to be filtered. Sand, about 20 microns, Cartridge, 10 and DE 5. If you only go by the numbers claimed, then DE has to be the winner based purely upon that. The...

    Hi from South Carolina.

Hi Kathy, welcome to TFP. Congrats and getting the TF100 kit. It may seem like a lot to learn and there is a big learning curve at first, but in no time, the light bulb will come on and you'll realize it isnt as hard as you think.

    What in the World!!!

I googled the diving bell spider. I hate spiders of any sort with a passion, but the diving one is unique. Chances are tho, it was a wolf spider. My place is surrounded by them. Every single day there are at least 3 or 4 of em in my skimmer. Last year, one of the ........ bit me! My...

Hot climates chime in.. how much CYA do you lose?

A couple of weeks ago, I had to replenish about 20 CYAs because we had a very wet spring and early summer. Lots of overflow caused it to drop like it did.

    Pool Robot Comparison

Z51? I though the "1" was a typo. I guess not though. I didnt know there was a Z51. My comment was about the Z5 "Oasis". My bad for any misinformation. These robot people change up the robots and their names about as often I change my socks! ha!

    Weather is Here!

Pool weather certainly is here. The temp is 101F where I live right now and the "feels like" is 115. Almost too hot to even go outside long enough to get in the pool! Welcome to TFP!

PH won’t go down, what gives?

Thinking the SWG is making your pH rise that quickly and that far is a bit of a far reach. Depending on the condition of your plaster and the TA, those are the most likely culprits. However not having any other info about the water parameters or any idea of your pool in general isnt helping...

Stabilizer dropped from 60 to somewhere below 30 in a little more than a month!

Theres no need to Panic. My experience the few times Ive been to FL, is that it rains in many places there, almost daily. Overflow and Splashout. If your test showed it dropped, then it did. And your FC of 10 is not unsafe for a CYA of 30. Put in some CYA, and enjoy the pool.

    Pool Robot Comparison

The Z is a great cleaner. You dont see it talked about much recently, because that model is several years old. If you go back far enough into the archives, you'll find plenty of raving about it from other TFPers.

Need help with SWG cost analysis (specifically, salt consumption estimate).

What others said. The salt doesn't get used up. The sodium hypochlorite turns back into sodium chloride again. On average over a periord of time, depending on how much rain you get during the swimming season, You might expect to have to add 4 to 6 bags a year to replenish what gets depleted by...

What can throw off a CYA test?

How you hold the skinny tube will effect the test also. nt The CYA test is sensitive to the amount of light that enters the tube. If you hold it with several fingers, the light cannot penetrate the tube. Holding it differently with different numbers of fingers will effect the test. Do...

    Sudden Clodiness

Hi, The cloudiness is not sudden, its been coming for a while, its just that you didn't know it, and so it seems sudden. You need to do a proper SLAM. The cloudiness is algae that hasnt fully bloomed and turned green yet. If you get on it immediately, you can probably clear it up in a couple...

    It's a do over!

Hi Vilo there are test kits on the market which can test for metal in the water. Unfortunately they are a bit pricey at 100$ or a little more. Due to the cost of those kits, and the seldom need to use them, most of us here at TFP dont recommend to buy one. As much as we dont like pool store...

New Pool, Pentair IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pump (3 HP) Run Time

Hi Daniel, Im with Jim. Every pool is different, so you will to make some judgement calls on how long and and at what speeds that minimally, you need to keep your pool how you want it to be. Me? I run my Intelliflo 24/7 too and I do it because I cannot tolerate anything floating on my water...

New Pool Construction - Rising CH & pH

Hi and welcome to TFP. New pools pH does rise very quickly during the curing process which can last for several months, so that doesn't surprise me at all. the CH on the other hand shouldnt be rising unless the water you use to replenish that which has evaporated, is very high in CH. I...
