    Is a SWG worth it?

How does the main drain help you drain your pool? Maybe that depends on your system - I have a paper cartridge filter and using my pump there is no way to direct the water out of the pool. The only place for the water to go is in the return jets to the pool.

I have a SWCG, why doesn't my pH creep up this year? Lots of rain?

Then it is likely the cover - that is the biggest change in the last year or so, other than the amount of rain.

I have a SWCG, why doesn't my pH creep up this year? Lots of rain?

Fair enough, but these folks seem to have a vested interest. When you make beer the characteristics of your water are very important. Toronto Water Profile | GTA Brews And the city releases an analysis...

I have a SWCG, why doesn't my pH creep up this year? Lots of rain?

I tested the water from my tap and it was 7.8, I didn't test the TA. My water comes from the city of Toronto. Googling shows that according to local beermakers the pH ranges from 7.3 - 7.8 and TA is typically around 90. They should know!

I have a SWCG, why doesn't my pH creep up this year? Lots of rain?

Thanks, I did test my tap water and it seems to have a pH of about 7.8. So using rain as "fill water" rather than tap makes that difference. But I thought that the aeration of a SWCG, bubbles that come from the electrolysis, causes pH to rise - you're saying that's not the case? Here is one...

I have a SWCG, why doesn't my pH creep up this year? Lots of rain?

My pool is about 16 years old and I have had a Jandy Aquapure 1400 SWCG since day one. Normally I would have to reduce the pH by adding acid once per month of so through the swimming season. I have had to replace my salt cell every few years and I am currently using a non-Jandy salt cell that...

    Water Guru Sense 2

I just read through this whole thread and it seems like the TL;DR is that it works ok for FC and pH, but not so well with CH, CYA and TA. It costs from $250 (S1) to $300(S2) and then you would be spending $10-20 per month on the supplies. To me that doesn't sound horrible as my CH, CYA and TA...

Probably old news, but new trick for me!

But for $400 you wouldn't have to do that!

I never heard of the Cyclone so I googled it. It seems useful but $400 for that? Post pictures when you build your own device.

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

I have used my EVO 604 for a couple of days, and a few comments. I am mainly comparing it to a Dolphin S300 that was about six years old. I bought the 604 rather than the 614 since it is about C$150 cheaper and from what I have heard the app is pretty crappy so that is an egregious premium to...

    The cloudy blue

How did your CYA go from 26 on Monday to 45 on Tuesday? It sounds like you didn't add CYA. Variability in testing? I personally find that the CYA test is VERY inaccurate. When does the black dot actually disappear? It is hard to say.

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

I just ordered a 604 from an online retailer here in Canada to replace my Dolphin S300. I didn't think it was worth paying C$150 more for the 614 as all it seems to give you is the app connectivity which is of limited use. The price was C$849 which is about US$620.

Jandy Aquapure recommended levels from manual

I just happened to look up the manual for my SWCG and isn't the FC recommendation WAY too low for CYA levels of 50/75?

    Pipe freezing question

Ok thanks, I was assuming that the water would rise back up to the water line in the pool, which I assume is the green horizontal line in your sketch. And that could creep up over the winter as the pool refills with water from rain and snow.

    Pipe freezing question

I live in Toronto. I don't open and close my pool, I have a service do that but I do all of my other maintenance. When they winterize they drain water below the jets and put plugs in on the jets and skimmer - I think. But my pool has two bottom drains. What happens to the water from the...

    Feature Suggestion - Permanent Notes

Note from my perspective as a lot of Notes are stuff that is more temporary. For example, I will put a Note when I drain and refill my spa and when I open and close my pool. But that is different than things that I want for permanent reference.

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

For those that have bought this - is it worth the US$100 or so to get the 614 vs the 604? Do you find the app useful at all? I assume that the only difference is the app/wifi connectivity. Looking at an online store here in Canada it looks like the EVO 604 is about CAD$150 less than the...

Those controllers look pretty good. There is also a Controlbyweb driver for Control4 systems as well. Control4 handles a lot of the overhead of the programming for HA systems. They do have interfaces with the pool automation controllers from the likes of Jandy and Pentair, but that stuff seems...

Can someone explain the Dolphin product lineup?

Thanks so much for the responses, PhillyRay! That's what I suspect. Yamaha would do this with Amplifiers/AVRs - they would have one set up model numbers for discount retailers like BestBuy and another set of model numbers for "serious" stereo shops but it was the same stuff in a different...

    Feature Suggestion - Permanent Notes

Sure, but that can get lost and isn't with you all the time, nor is it backed up to the cloud. I could use a notebook to record my pool test results every day, but isn't PoolMath the better way to do that?

I am kind of going down this route as well. My first step is that I have set up some switches that control my pump and heater. I have a Sonoff THR320D switch. This is pretty cheap, around $25, and can switch up to a 20A load. It also has a dry contact relay. I have flashed the firmware on...
