You’ll be cleaning the filters until the SLAM is complete. It’s a process and not a one time quick fix. If it’s as bad as you indicate it may take weeks to clear. Fortunately, your in the low UV period which will help. Follow the process as much as you can. It works.
Yes. UV always plays a role in FC degradation so that has to be taken into effect. It’s hard to say with any degree of certainty what the exact loss is by UV and nasties.

In my experience this is the only non-lethal method that works. The sooner you do it the better else the behavior is passed on to successive generations.
Algae is not visible until it is. My water was clear but when I removed my ladder and took it apart I found algae throughout the apparatus. That was the culprit causing my OCLT failures. Once cleaned and reinstalled I passed OCLT several times before calling the SLAM complete.
One minor modification to firmly attach the bucket lid and she hummed away. Made very short work of the drainage.
