Pool is getting cloudy, chlorine, pH, TA and CYA levels are good.

Glad your pool is clear again. I have the following concerns for you and want to make sure you have a good plan: 1. Frog system - Will you continue to use this? Donaldson mentioned metals in post #6, which is exactly what the frog does. The metals help mask algae problems but they will...

    TFP method

^ That's the official answer. If you are looking for the JJ Nutshell, then here it is: Test your pool using your own TFP approved test kit. No pool store testing, no test strips, no gimmicky digital tools, etc. We use basic chemicals in our pools commonly found at big box/hardware stores and...

Massive chlorine consumption during SLAM (41 ppm combined chlorine)

Did you check the date codes on your chlorine and do you know if the store kept them inside? Chlorine degrades quickly if left outside, but even if it degraded down to 1% you should still see a good jump in FC after 55 gallons?!?! Additionally, have you double checked the expiration dates on...

Dealing with high FC & CC

Those tests are not as accurate as we would like and you really need a better test kit. Most people "in the industry" are focused on making $ from homeowners vs accuracy. With that said, it sounds like you should have never ended the SLAM. Did you pass all 3 criteria to end the SLAM? SLAMs...

    Low chlorine and stabilizer levels

Your 3lbs added 28 CYA to your water, so I would count your CYA as 40 for now and give it a few days to raise up. Now your #1 priority is your FC. Add a gallon of liquid chlorine (10% strength) to get your FC up and use your SWG to keep it in the 5-7 range. Let us know how the water looks...

    Please help me understand

The directions say to either: - use 10ML sample - Every drop of reagent is 0.5 FC so count the drops and divide by 2 to get your FC - use 25 ML sample - Every drop of reagent is 0.2 FC, so every 5 drops is 1FC Our recommendation is to use the 10ML sample. The math is easier, it saves you $ of...

    Am I finished SLAMing?

Its just added insurance in case there is still a tiny bit of algae lingering somewhere, especially since you just barely passed the CC test and are questioning your daily drop in FC. Heck, I've never had a speck of algae in my pool and I regularly keep mine slightly above target for insurance...

Between a rock and an algae place

If you use the "Effects of Adding", you can search for your SWG and put in your pool volume to play around with the numbers. If you run 24/7 and have your SWG cranked to 100%, you will generate 9.3 FC per day. In Houston you will probably need to generate roughly half that per day in the...

    SLAM - Resistant Algae

How long have you been Slamming, 2 days? If so that would be really short for a SLAM as many take 4+ days or even weeks if the water is really bad. If it has been longer, it could be staining. Do those areas brush clean and re-appear or do they not go away with brushing?

    Design help

I'm certainly not an expert on your climate (but I've been there the last 2 summers, great state btw), but running 3 bodies of water off the same equipment in your environment is certainly tricky. Have you considered breaking it up into 2: 1) Pool(s) that are fully winterized and you don't...

Tired and Frustrated - Can't Get Rid of Cloudy Pool

I’ll keep it simple: - chlorine kills algae, that’s it - our method to kill algae is called a SLAM. It’s basically keeping your chlorine elevated until the algae is dead and gone, usually a week or longer - to do a SLAM, you need a good test kit - you need to use liquid chlorine as the powders...

    Cloudy Water Not Getting Better

Sand filters are the slowest to clear and actually work better when a bit dirty, so you may be doing yourself a disservice by backwashing 3x a day. I would only backwash when filter pressure rises 25% above clean pressure. Are you doing that? Also, please do not use FLOC/Clarifier as they can...

    Metal

I would go ahead and turn it on. Hows does the water look? The only thing that is a bit concerning to me is the CC of 1.0 as that means the chlorine you added is fighting something. If your water is not crystal clear, I would recommend doing an OCLT to see if you have algae. Let us know...

Having to SLAM every 4-6 weeks?

+1 on the above. Your pool is telling you it needs more chlorine. A SLAM should not be a normal routine and proper FC levels will ensure you never have to SLAM again. As you can see from my avatar, I keep my FC much higher than 5 in my salt pool and never have had a speck of algae in it.

    Liquid Chlorine

And you should have way cheaper options for liquid chlorine (walmart, lowes, home depot, etc.). If you are going to get it from a pool store, I would at least get the refillable jugs from Pinch a penny.

Between a rock and an algae place

Work has been crazy and I'm catching up. We were worried about your low chlorine, and I wanted you to do an OCLT to see if you had algae brewing. Here is what I see: 6/8 OCLT - Loss of 1 FC (Barely a pass, but at 8am you also likely had some sunlight in play that could have contributed to...

Pool won't clear no matter what. Tired of fighting with it.

Its easy to get lost in all of the numbers. Just keep it simple: - The cloudiness is most likely caused by algae in the water - Algae occurs when your pool does not have enough chlorine to kill the algae - Chlorine is the only thing that kills algae Since low chlorine is your problem, I stick...

Pool won't clear no matter what. Tired of fighting with it.

What test kit did you get, and I just want to confirm the above numbers are from your kit and not a pool store. Once you refill your pool, post a new set of numbers using your test kit for us. I would also suggest adding 3/4 gallon of liquid chlorine daily until we can see a good set of...

SLAM went fine now fine tuning questions

Your FC should be your #1 priority, like drop what you are doing and go add it this afternoon. For your CYA, you should keep your chlorine between 5 and 7 and never ever ever get close to 3. Since you are at 1, I would get your chlorine up ASAP. Then do a OCLT to make sure you do not have...

Do I need an air blower?

I dont use my blower most times I use the spa. About 1 in 3 times of using the spa, I will run the blower for a minute or so because of little bubble action and the blower help kick start the bubbles. If its working without it, I would say leave it alone. As you said, if you decide you need...

Heavy Rain - is this normal?

Ok, looks like you found the culprit. Your FC is right in line for your CYA, so that is good but feel free to keep it a bit higher and test often since the dirt has extra cooties that can eat up chlorine quickly. I would keep an eye on your drainage in future storms. Maybe landscaping is...
