    Death Swamp

Wow, lots of scary stuff going on in this post... dead cats, birds, algae, pool balls and the most scary thing of all Floc. Did you run the floc through your filter? If so, you likely gummed up your filter. Just stick to the SLAM and have some patience and your water will be clear in a...

Brown Stains In Pool Quickly Getting Worse

Did you fertilize recently by chance? It does look like Iron to me as well, but check out this article especially the Vitamin C test to test for Iron stains. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/stains-in-your-pool/

    High Copper

It’s added to the raw intake pipes to control the muscles, but filtered out to less than 3 parts per billion, far less than your measurements in parts per million. https://www.bcmud.org/news/?FeedID=2397

    High Phosphates

If it were me, I would spend the $30 on the test kit to know for sure if my phosphates were really that high. https://a.co/d/fQkNwkD

    High Copper

Have you had low pH or added anything acidic to the skimmers?

What pool chemicals do I need to buy

If it were me, I would tackle the current problems of water chemistry, enjoy the pool, and start saving up $ for future problems. A small filter just means you have to clean it more often. Annoying, but nothing I would rush out and replace. The old/painted plaster could be a bit more...

I have the antithesis of a trouble free pool. I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you still have the CYA granules dissolving? If so, remove them ASAP to make your SLAM easier. Also I would recommend starting the SLAM sooner to get ahead of any visible algae and also a weekend is typically not long enough.

    Pool is kicking my butt.

While you are figuring out the TA testing, I recommend you shift focus to your chlorine. With a CYA of 40, your FC should be over 5 and never ever ever below 3.... you are at 0.4. FC should be your #1 priority... TA is typically the least important metric.

What pool chemicals do I need to buy

I would grab a few gallons of liquid chlorine (Walmart of Pinch a Penny) and a bottle of Muriatic Acid. Those will be your most common chemicals to add. I also highly recommend testing well before next week. Why not test now?

    Algae Algae Algae

The fancy testers like to give very precise results, but as you are finding out, precise does not mean accurate and repeatable. Get a more accurate test kit, then your focus should be on FC and SLAM. If your CYA results are remotely accurate, ~30 CYA is perfect for a SLAM so dont add any CYA...

    Pool water test machine

In the world of pool store testing, the tests are either: 1. Fancy and provide precise numbers, but not very accurate (especially when not regularly calibrated) 2. Drop based and very accurate If you can invent something that checks all the boxes for #1, you would be very rich. Until then...

Im always so bad at judging the color of the PH test, can anyone help me out?

7.4 would be my guess. Regardless of the exact number, its good.

    Hi from Texas

Look at it as a good thing. Remember when we said to not get rid of your pucks, now you get to use some of them and lessen your liquid chlorine demand for a few weeks. Also note when the water warms up in the heat of summer, your CYA will degrade a bit and will probably need repleneshing. If...

    Question about using flocculant

I like Walmart or Pinch a Penny. I have a SWCG but always keep at gallon or so on hand for if I need a quick boost.

    Question about using flocculant

+3 on not using FLOC, just good old fashioned chlorine, filtering and patience. Keep in mind it didn't get that way overnight and is not going to be fixed overnight. I rarely ever post links outside of TFP since there is a lot of craziness out there, but this reddit post is why you do not...

    Educating the Pool Store

I dont know why you are worried about the date code. That stuff doesnt have CYA in it and everyone knows that unstabilized chlorine will instantly be gobbled up by the sun's UV rays. :poke:

    Pool Still Cloudy

Keep at it and take pictures daily so you can see progress, no matter how small. When you get a bit more clear, you can also look at adding DE to your sand filter to help it along the last few days. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/add-de-to-a-sand-filter/

Pentair Filter tore and pool lost 70 percent water night

I would not drain with all of the rain we have been having, as you will risk it popping out of the ground. In addition to the equipment issues, you have some serious water issues. Is there chlorine in the water? If not, I would get some liquid chlorine in there ASAP and plan to keep it...

    2 week slam, still cloudy

A couple of things: 1. Your FC target should be 16 since you round up your CYA (35 = 40). 2. You backwash daily, which sounds good but many users report that their sand filters actually filter better when slighly dirty, so only backwash when your pressure rises 25% from the clean pressure...

    Pool Inspection Feedback

Thats a new one. That may have to go in the "pool stored" thread. Welcome and looks like everyone has you on the right track.
  22. JJ_Tex

    Why is FC still zero?

By my math, you added 30 CYA so your target FC should be 12. Any time you test and are below the SLAM level FC, add to get back to the SLAM level... the more often the better.

    Pool water quit rotating

+1 on checking your filter pressure and likely backwashing

    Taylor K-2006 (new) vs Leslie’s???

Not really. If you really want to double check, buy a TF-100 or TF Pro and compare the results to your current test kit. Comparing your results to a pool store is like comparing your calculus test answers to the dumb kid in class. https://tftestkits.net/splash-page.html

    New to testing

If you click on the Salt rectangle on the main screen with all of the other metrics, it should pull up another screen specific to only salt. Then you input: Current Salt (I would test again since there is a large discrepancy in your test kit and your salt water generator) Target Level (I...

    New to testing

I was there a month ago and it was still pretty chilly, but hopefully you are warming up by now. Regardless of the air temp, FC of 0 scares me and I would get some liquid chlorine in there ASAP while you adjust your other levels.
  27. JJ_Tex

    New to testing

    1. That is a salt test kit and tests salt in the water, not FC. 2400ppm would be your salt, so likely a bit low for your SWCG to generate chlorine. 2. Dont throw any of that out, and use those tests to test for FC (and do that ASAP since you didnt list FC in your numbers and I'm worried its...

Product for submerged concrete faux rocks to prevent Algae?

I may have missed it, but what are your chlorine and CYA numbers? TFP has published FC target levels but that is for most pools. Ones with unique situations like poor circulation, rough spots, etc. may need more chlorine.

    Horse pool

+1 on the sand filter and MPV. I would also want to be able to vacuum to waste as I would assume there is stuff at the bottom of that pool that you would rather vacuum out and not go into your filter.
