Am I measuring FC correctly?? What does CC tell me?

Hello - I have a Taylor K-2006 test kit. I'm not sure I'm following the instructions on the box correctly to test for FC. I'm filling comparator tube to 25ml. Adding (2) level dippers of R-0870 and swirling to dissolve. Color turns red. Then adding R-0871 by drop, swirling, counting until red...

    Amount of CYA

I've got the conditioner going but I have another question. The directions on my conditioner says to dilute half of what's needed in a warm bucket of water, stir, and pour directly into the skimmer. Then do the same with the remaining amount and pour in the skimmer four hours later. This seems...

    Amount of CYA

I do have another question on putting the conditioner in the sock. I need 45oz and a sock won't hold all this. Instead of a sock can I just spread the amount into the water all around the pool or is the sock the way to go? I guess if I use a sock I will need to keep replenishing it until I use...

Thanks again! Will get the stabilizer tomorrow.

    Amount of CYA

Thank you both! I redid the pool math assuming my CYA is 20 and my goal is 40. That calculates as 45oz by weight or 47oz by volume of stabilizer, I'm assuming this is referring to the granular kind. I've never added bleach since I have the SWG but I'm assuming it is ok to add bleach while using...

    Amount of CYA

My plaster is a little over a month old. I did a full set of tests today: PH - over 8 (added 29oz of acid per pool math, having to add acid almost daily). TA - 80 ppm CH - 230 ppm FC - 3.6 ppm CYA - 30 ppm Salt - 2900 ppm ** My question is on the CYA. I did the test using a Taylor K-2006 kit...

    Ok to use automated vacuum?

It's been a little over 4 weeks since my new plaster. Is it ok to use the automatic vacuum now? Also, I am now brushing every other day instead of daily. Is that ok, or should I do daily for a week or two longer? THANKS

New Plaster Testing - PH high but TA is good

It's been almost one month since our new replaster and every time I test the PH it is high (over an 8 using a Tayor K-2006 test kit). Usually the TA is in the acceptable range of about 80ppm. I'm assuming it is ok to add muriatic acid to lower the PH even though the TA is in the acceptable...

Muriatic Acid- how much can I add at one time?

How much muriatic acid can be added at one time? We have only been adding 16oz at a time then waiting four hours, retesting and adding the balance if still needed. Is it ok to add 32oz at one time? We use the dilution method and add it to the deep end of the pool in front of a return. Thanks!

    Question for Plaster Pool Owners

Question is how much mottling is normal and inherent for a plaster pool? Ours was replastered with white plaster 3 weeks ago and we still have a creamy beige mottling throughout (floors and walls). I'm reading online, and have been told conflicting opinions about how long plaster takes to cure...

Can chlorine and muriatic acid be added at same time?

Can chlorine (tabs in floater) and muriatic acid be added at the same time? How long does pump have to run after acid is added? Should we brush pull after we add acid so "mix it in"? We have new plaster and trying to do things right. Thanks!

    Testing pink, not red

I'm new to testing and want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong. When I test for CH the test turns pink, not red. When I test for TA it also is pink, not red. I'm assuming I reach the endpoint when the next drop I add does nothing to deepen the color. Is this pink correct or maybe I have...

    Plaster mottling

I was thinking you needed to drain the pool for an acid wash so that makes me feel better, thank you! Any opinions if this could be corrected with an acid wash or just due to poor workmanship? I've seen online where it can mottle if they work the plaster too much when it's too dry. Is it...

    Plaster mottling

I have a 3 year warranty. The plasterer said my warranty was good whether I did the start up or the pool guy. I've tried to attach photos I took when the pool was freshly plastered and getting filled with water. I thought the mottling would go away as it dried, and at the beginning I kept...

    Plaster mottling

What is an acceptable amount of plaster mottling? We had our pool replastered 10 days ago. Before they started filling the pool I noticed some creamy beige mottling on some of the walls but thought that was normal because it was wet, fresh plaster. I was thinking it would dissipate when the pool...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

Thanks Jason! I have some additional questions: ** It's been 9 days. Do I still need to run the pump continuously or go to a daytime only schedule? Still a little dust but does not look like much, filter pressure going to 20 every 2nd or 3rd day though. ** I don't believe any sequesterant was...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

Ok - slight change of plan. We were going to start up the pool but the pool guy my plasterer usually works with did it. The pool has been filled with water for a week now. The first day (last Thurs) the pool guy tested water and added acid. He came back Saturday and added a gallon of acid. Said...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

JasonLion - Thanks for the information! Just to clarify the TA and PH will usually start to raise at some point after a replaster so the step that NPC says to lower them beginning day 1 is a mute point? That seems to be the biggest difference between the two procedures (NPC and Traditional)...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

Ok – We are going to try to open this pool ourselves but I have some questions. *Should I replace my old filter cartridges before we start running the pump or use the old filters until we get all the plaster dust out of the pool? They are pretty old so I think we should switch out for the new...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

One more thing... the PB is the one who gave me the number for the two plasterers he uses so I could get quotes directly from them. He said if I wasn't adding water features or decking, etc then it was cost effective for me to go direct. He also said he would do the start up for free and if I...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

It's January and we are getting ready to replaster next week. The plasterer usually works with a PB who does the pool start up but I showed him the NPC start up procedures and he thought they were fine. So, my question is is this something I can do (see above post for my skill level with pools)...

Do pool start up myself after new plaster??

How difficult is it for a newbie at pool maintenance to do a pool start up after getting new plaster? We've had the old plaster chipped out this week and are going to have it replastered in January. Before we drained the pool we only cared for it for about 3 months so we are not overly confident...

    Opinions on Pebble vs. Plaster??

Thanks for all the replys! We went and saw some pools this weekend with "white" pebble tec. Is there such a thing as white pebble tec that really looks white? The ones we saw just looked dingy, not brilliant white like plaster does. I'm talking about pebble and not the crystal beads, I'm sure...

Does anyone have an item number for a FAS -DPD Test Kit? I already bought the Leslies Kit 18-576 which seems to have all the other tests I need except for this one. Thank you!

    Opinions on Pebble vs. Plaster??

We are replastering our pool and were going to go with traditional plaster but everyone keeps saying pebble lasts forever and plaster only 5-8 years. If I knew for sure we would be in this house another 10 or 20 years I would pebble, but we think we will only be here about 6 or 7 more years. Our...
