    Starting the process

Okay, I'll continue posting in this thread to document my process. Mostly for my benefit, hopefully others will learn from my stupidity. I admit, I basically let my pool go over the last couple of months, just to see how bad it would get & what would be involved in getting it back to shape...

    Starting the process

I figured there was a reason. However, I'm dumping in enough bleach to get to 16, but it doesn't get there. All the while, I'm telling myself I know it's not going to get there. What you are saying, If I understand you correctly, is that I should be confident that adding the right amount is...

    Starting the process

Right. What I am asking, is that since I know the FCs are being consumed almost as fast as I am adding it to the pool, wouldn't it be better to overdose the first time, to get to 16. Right again. I have not been going at it a couple of months. I failed to prevent algae from growing for a couple...

Yes, Just in time for spring and summer!

Same here... exact same thing. However, I'm thinking of buying a couple of kits as early Christmas presents. One of my Brother-in-laws just bought a house with a swamp. I've got another brother-in-law who does things the hard way (pool store advice).

    Starting the process

So I figured I should go ahead & get my pool in shape. There's heavy algae build up in the pool, as I haven't been taking care of it for the last two months. I spent the morning going over my pool school notes, getting the ph in line, & made a run to the store to load up on bleach. According...

After 12 days my water is still cloudy

[center:1rlztl0d] [/center:1rlztl0d] I'm sorry, but 12 days.... 30 days.... that seems a bit excessive. If we are measuring constantly, maintaining proper shock levels, keeping our chemistry in balance..... doing everything right... Should it take this long?

    Something isn't right

Well........... I'm screwed. I just ran out of the R-0871 Titriatic Regent. So I'm running blind. I dumped two more 182 oz bottles of Chlorine into the pool till I figure out what to do. Pool store is closed today so I can't see if they have any. I've got another test kit, a Taylor...

    Something isn't right

about an hour later, reading 17.5 FC, 0 CC... added two more 182 oz jugs per pool calculator.

    Something isn't right

Just got back from the store, bought some more bleach. I realize that I am a bit dyslexic. Those are 182 oz. of bleach, not 128. So to go from 0 to 28 ppm, I only needed to add 5 jugs of bleach (6%). I added twice that amount, so I should have been at 56 ppm (28+28=56) but I was only at 12.8...

    Something isn't right

ok a little more than an hour ago, I dumped 10 128oz jugs of chlorine into my pool according to the pool calculator to get my pool from 0 FC to 28 I needed to add 8.16 128oz jugs. To be safe, I went over. Tested my water for FC & CC a few minutes ago & I read 12.8 FC 0 CC. The pool calculator...

    Something isn't right

I've got a K-2006 test kit, not the TF-100 Full Test results are FC: 0 CC: 0 PH: 7.6 CH: 280 TA: 70 CYA: 50 I understand that I should be methodical about it, & that's why I'm here, trying to figure out what the method should be. The Pool school shocking instructions says: Which is what...

    Something isn't right

Here are some pictures. Keep in mind it's still windy, but the water is pretty clear. The bottom of the pool is 7.5' & I can see the bottom pretty good.

    Something isn't right

I've got something going on in my pool, but I don't know what. I've got an 18,000 gallon cloud shaped pool with an attached 6' spa. I bought a TF-1000(?) test kit. I've got a Pentair Chlorinator that I use to keep the chlorine level between 5 & 7 ppm. With the amount of evaporation I am...

Still can get my tablet feeder to get enough chlorine

One thing I found out about my feeder. As the tabs dissolve, so does the amount of chlorine added to your pool. I only put 4 in my feeder (which looks just like yours). The first two days, I had it set on 3. I had to bump it up yesterday (day 3) to try to maintain 5 ppm. I'm guessing the...

    Valve Actuator Partial Close

After re-reading this, I don't know if I understood you correctly. The picture I posted is one position of two that this valve can be set. Port three is partially closed. The pool controls has it in that position or completely closing off port 1. I don't have the option to set it to...

    Valve Actuator Partial Close

Sorry, almost forgot. I took these in the dark, with my blackberry. badazz little camera in a phone if you ask me. When I thought I was having water flow issues, I tried to adjust this valve manually, but the actuator kept putting it back to this position. My pb set it up, I have no idea...

Have we verified damage to the sand filter yet? Sand channeling? Though the pump may be oversized, is it 100% certain that this is the source of the original problem?

    Cost associated with BBB

You are right, 182 oz jugs. That's where I messed up. I knew it sounded a little high. But according to the pool calculator if I'm replenishing 3ppm/day, I'll need to add 131 oz which is a little more than a gallon/day.
  22. T

    Cost associated with BBB

Help me with my math. If I've got a 21,000 gallon pool & I add a gallon of bleach per day to make-up 3ppm of chlorine lost to the sun, on a month with 30 days, I would be spending $75/month right? Does that sound a little high?

    Valve Actuator Partial Close

I'll see if I can take a picture for you tomorrow. But my builder set up the valve going to my pool returns halfway between full on & full closed. I think they are hayward actuators, but don't quote me on that.

    Ozone Joes??

I was just thinking out loud in the post you quoted. I don't know what the answer is & don't pretend to. I do have one on my pool & I plan to experiment when I get this BBB thing down to a routine. But I also have a raised spa on the pool, the ozonator may be required for all I know. I also...

    Ozone Joes??

I'm not talking about my pool. I haven't had it long enough to experience it, but that is one of the things I hope to avoid. I've been in a public pools that reaked of that smell most people associate with too much chlorine. After being here for a while, I've come to the conclusion that smell...
