    Understanding chlorine loss

Dosing is just adding chlorine to the pool. Dosing daily is adding once per day. To calculate your loss, test after youve added liquid chlorine, giving it a bit of time to mix (maybe 30 minutes with pump on). 24 hours later, test again before adding chlorine. The difference is your...

    Yellowout and algae

Michael - trust these guys. When i inherited my first ever pool with a new house 7 years ago I was scared about going too high on the chlorine. That attitude changed very quickly after hearing the ridiculous advice coming from the pool store and comparing it with the science based approach on...

What is an simple and economic way to automate adding liquid chlorine and perhaps pH-?

Stenner pumps are used by many to provide regular daily doses of liquid chlorine and/or muriatic acid. There are a number of threads available on tfp about how to install. Stenners provide regular automated additions but do not monitor the water chemistry so that is still required as regular...

Underground wire chase for pool robot

Just a thought….What about using permeable drain pipe (French drain style) and leaving the openings level with the ground? Itll fill with water but should self-empty when things dry up. It would eliminate pvc U’s protruding in the middle of your lawn/patio

    leak from salt cell union

o_O o_O :ROFLMAO::unsure: This ones wierd. Pvc work is not hard. But you can also expect your redo to be that little bit off from perfect. Theres always some give in the pipes and as long as things are close, it comes together when the unions are put on to bring it all together. Redoing...

Have you used a 3D CAD program to draw and accurately calculate your pool volume? Which program did you use?

Now that we’ve give u all sortsa answers, why are you asking about this?

Have you used a 3D CAD program to draw and accurately calculate your pool volume? Which program did you use?

Want to hear something ridiculous? I imposed the shape of my freeform pool from googlemaps satellite view onto an excel spreadsheet and reduced cell size so they acted like pixels. Then used some formula approximations for depth at each pixel. Dont laugh it worked

pH rise and fall with liquid chlorine

Right. So for a typical daily fc addition of 3-4ppm, the temporary ph impact is negligible, and will reverse itself over the course of the fc being consumed. To the OP, don’t worry about turning your probe off as the daily ph swing isn’t meaningful.

pH rise and fall with liquid chlorine

Yes. But people using liquid are generally adding it once daily, not continuously. Theoretically that impacts ph temporarily until the chlorine breaks down and ph returns to the “pre-spike” level. The question is whether the temporary ph impact of the daily chlorine addition might be enough to...

pH rise and fall with liquid chlorine

I think what you really want to know is whether the daily addition bumps the ph up enough such that the sensor thinks acid is needed. When i was using liquid a few years ago, I don’t think my daily additions of 3-4ppm impacted the ph enough to notice it, even on a temporary basis before it...

Salt water pool chemistry balance question

I don’t know if borates impact ta at all. Maybe thats the missing piece. In any case a steady MA diet is pretty common

    SWCG recommendation?

don’t plan on relying on tabs as your primary chlorine source. You will live to regret it and be back in two years on this forum asking why your pool is green and how can you bring down your skyrocketing cya. Sounds like youve done the research and realized thats not the way to go but just...

    Hayward T-15 output

Put the vsp on low speed 24/7. Just high enough for the seg flow switch. It costs almost nothing to run the extra time and will give you a lot more flexibility with the swg output. Do the overnight tests to make sure nothing is growing

    Hayward T-15 output

Arr you running those percentages 24/7? If so something isn’t right. Do the overnight loss test. If that passes, do an overnight gain test with the swg on 100% for the night period. My pool is a bit smaller than yours and I rarely run my t-15 at more than 50-60%

    Issues after replastering

For a long time. I think i added ma every day from when i plastered in april till i closed it in October. When i opened next spring it was still taking more acid than normal but not daily. Your mileage will vary

    leak from salt cell union

also pay attention to whether it feels any different tightening the nuts. If the threads are different enough such that they are not bringing the mating surface together on the new cell, you should feel it in the twist. Working with pvc is easy but making the final fit super precise is not...

    leak from salt cell union

Thats too bad. I was hoping. We can guide you through redoing the pvc if you want to put the new nuts on. But….it might not fix things. If the new nuts are exactly the same as the old, and the current space fits the cell perfectly, then what are we gaining by recreating what’s already there?

    Pureline SWG

Swgs have a flow switch. Having them tied to the pump electrical makes it more foolproof - flow switches can malfunction. Bad things can happen if these run without water flow. Just cause the Core model is plug in doesn’t mean you cant tie it to the pump switch, but itll take some electrical...

Salt water pool chemistry balance question

Its pretty normal for ph to rise back after knocking it down. The solution is just to give a steady diet of MA like youve been doing. Its a little wierd that TA is bouncing like that. It takes a lot of acid to lower TA a little bit but once its down it stays there unless you add water or...

    leak from salt cell union

Id probably try to tighten with a strap wrench before doing anything else. That little bit tighter is probably all you need. Definitely get a strap wrench to do it. It will press evenly on all sides of the nut and let you tighten it without bending it out of shape

    leak from salt cell union

Before you go cutting anything….The first thing I would do is to figure out what changed so that now you’re leaking. is the new cell exactly the same length as the old one Did the new cell come with union nuts? Are they exactly the same as the old ones? Look at the threads very carefully...

Stenner pump not injecting chlorine with duckbill in place

Try getting a new duckbill. Maybe this ones just old and stiffened up? Also take a look at the pump rollers. Are they completely extended so they are properly compressing the tube? Are they rotating at the same rpm as the motor shaft?

    leak from salt cell union

This looks like a great candidate for your first pvc work!! Seriously…pvc is something anyone willing to try can do, and it looks to me like youve got enough room to work woth on both sides so it won’t be a hard job.
