Neighbor renting out their "Poolside Paradise." Renters keep coming to my house.

Back in the day I had a tee shirt that said, "I'm not a doctor but I'll have a look." Add to that... "But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Select last night..." The pool-sharing fad is just another brick in the wall, another bird-of-a-feather, same song second verse situation. Venture capital and...

Thinking about going Salt - have a few questions

Bingo. That's why so many of us just run the pump at the bare minimum. Off the top of my head that sounds about similar to my system and many others here. Understand that the [RPM / GPM / Pump wattage] relationship is NOT linear. As pump RPM increases, your power draw will rise...

Thinking about going Salt - have a few questions

Great job on the install! Glad you found a solution that's gonna work for you. It might be better to get a feel for SWG % and runtime numbers for a few weeks first. CYA is easy to add, difficult to subtract. If it was my chems and pool and I still needed more CYA I'd probably keep the tabs...

Thinking about going Salt - have a few questions

Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town a bunch for work. Negative. CYA test isn't done on the stirrer, and some of us don't even have a tube that'll take the magic stirring tablet thingy. Combine equal parts pool water and CYA reagent, give it a good shake, let it sit for the 30 seconds...

    Low CYA

No, we don't generally recommend tabs in the skimmer here. They really create some problematic water chemistry that can harm your pump's front end. Best to get a floating tab soaker for a few bucks and let it distribute to the pool itself, not a return line.

    Finally got my wiring finished

I literally have that item open in a tab on Amazon right now. But then my anxiety was making me second guess myself and look at the fancy $37 one with the flap and then I remembered I have stuff to do today and don't need to spend an hour shopping for TV covers.

    Finally got my wiring finished

Right you are. I've worked with professional rated outdoor TVs with all the weather protection and ventilation fans and filters and they're a certifiable nightmare, especially when something breaks. Even the consumer grade ones you're looking at $1200 for a ~48" and those are the cheapest...

    Finally got my wiring finished

The plan previously has been to just bring it inside. Thanks for the suggestion to look for a cover. It's mounted well up underneath the patio so no risk of water, then it's just keeping the dust off of it. We're out of the blowing dirt and sand season now that the trees have leaves and the...

    Finally got my wiring finished

Man I got so excited about the link you posted... "Heck yeah i'll put a film on the screen..." but then "BAHHHH A HUNDRED BUCKS?! NO DANG WAY!" while I am probably looking at $500 or more for a retractable sun shade to block the glare... I never said I was particularly SMART...

Calculating actual amount of acid for TA drop

You ought to be just fine with 4 gallons. Mine took around 4 gallons to get from 200-100 and my pool is almost twice yours in volume.

    Low CYA

Tabs in the skimmer can be harmful to your pool pump if you're not running the pump 24/7. Also it's not realistic to get 60ppm of CYA into the pool using tabs alone so you can start utilizing your SWG. Your options look like: 1.) Get a couple tab floaters, fill 'em up and cross your fingers...

Being told to NOT add CYA

What method are you using to put CYA in the pool? Sock in the skimmer? It can take upwards of 48 hours to fully dissolve in the water especially if it's being sucked directly into the filter. You're right about the sunlight; if you don't get enough CYA in the pool you're just throwing away...

    Pump Setting Suggestions

Whoa, that's way overkill on the RPMs for 24/7 running. Most folks around here set their regular "pool mode" RPMs to around 12-1300, just enough to keep the flow switch closed on the SWG, then program a higher flow rate a few times a day to keep the surface skimmed. I've got an intellicenter...

    Finally got my wiring finished

I didn't want to use white. Black would have been okay, but there was some brown stuff on Amazon for a pretty decent price. I chose to go the molly route instead of the double sided tape, so I'll have some holes to fill if I ever want to remove it. This is a medium size channel, just big...

    🥳 Outstanding Member Showcase 🥳

I chimed in on a newcomer's post recently and they were grousing about how they couldn't get help and that reddit pool threads got more replies. @mknauss and @Jimrahbe were the only two people posting trying to help this knucklehead that was trying to find every possible way to not answer their...

How do I set up my SWCG run time and generation?

First things first, do you have an accurate test kit? If you're using strips or the pool store for FC testing, none of this will make any difference. Next, given the math done by magiteck, the answer is almost certainly "no." Have a look at either PoolMath or here: SWG Run Time Calculator...

About ready to just fill it in with dirt

That sucks you're frustrated with the pool. I was talking to my neighbor yesterday and we're both grateful to be on cartridge filters... worse comes to worst, throw em in the garbage and buy new ones... I don't think that was Marty's point. After a certain CH level is exceeded, it's...

Doing a remodel —Irregular pool need help with equipment

I don't know specifically, but it seems like there's been a significant shortage of pool equipment during COVID because of a combination of fewer manufacturing workers, general supply chain issues, and tons of people staying home and building pools. Seeing if there's a way around the 2 VSPs...

    Smart bots?

Welcome to the club! This is a really special place, glad you found us. I don't know about tech-filled bots. We got the best "dumb" bot we could find based on recommendations and reviews online. It only occasionally gets stuck in one place, and if I notice it's there, I'll throw it back in...

    Aeration

You're a lot better off than you might think. Keep forcing it down and it'll stabilize. I'm still curious about your fill water's alkalinity. Late in the season last year I got tired of doing the yo-yo every 2-3 days between 7.2 and 8.2 so I just got to where it'd take about 20 oz of...

PH/TA levels always on the move

Since you have SWG, your CSI number is much more important than any individual TA or pH number. There's a gazillion different ways to get that slightly negative CSI (for SWG longevity), so feel out where your pool wants to stay. If you're only adding acid every couple of weeks, you're probably...

How do water features affect PH and TA?

GORGEOUS!!!! I believe a CO2 injection system might help keep your pH down while adding TA, but help us understand why you'd want that? Most of the time there's no reason to raise TA if it's at 85-90 already. Higher TA means you'll have to add MORE acid to the pool to keep your pH at the...

Is there a rule on how long or what % to run the SWG to adjust levels?

If you're running the SWG at 100%, there's only one variable to change: runtime. I see you have a variable speed pump, but do you also have the ability to schedule a lower pump RPM for most of the day and then kick that up for skimming? Many folks here just run their VSP 24/7 so they've got...

    Finally got my wiring finished

I've had the TV mount outside for a few months now, but I've finally gotten all the cabling pulled up thru the attic so the patio TV can either be run in "party mode" with the tuner inside pushing audio and video to both TVs (living room and patio), or it can be playing its own thing but still...
