    Switching from Frog to SWCG

My normal fill water is around TH = 260 ppm, but I have an option to use softened water, if I want to go to the trouble to drag a few hundred feet of hose from my garage to the pool. Presently, I'm running around CH = 110 ppm. I'll make some time to test the fill water for CH later today.

Because I was following the instructions provided by Taylor for measuring TA, which were apparently wrong, according to folks on this site. I was measuring to first change from green to red, and getting values in the 60's and 80's, so I was adding a bit of "Alka Plus", targeting 100 ~ 120...

    Down side to SWG?

Maybe another good reason to get away from Frog. My pH was forever drifting low, nearly always wanting to be mid-6's. The best reason I can imagine for that was the CYA being added by dichlor tablets, as I don't think I was adding anything else that would lower pH. I went thru two full tubs...

Hah... was just headed back here to post I found it. You stole my thunder! :D Result is 0.10, which I guess seems good. One thing that always frustrates me with pool test goals, aside from all the conflicting advice out there, is the use of ranges rather than targets. Sure, knowing an...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

I just entered this morning's data, first time I figured out how to log data, rather than just using instant feedback. But for some reason, I'm not finding anywhere the app reports LSI or CSI. Dang... I'm going to have some stuff to sell or trash, when this is all done. :ROFLMAO: I think I...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Before? Really? That goes so much against my intuition, in terms of bather comfort. I'm used to shocking after events. I just added 84 oz. of 10% Cl, per Pool Math. I can't help but think everyone's eyes will be burning this afternoon, or that we're going to have some bleached bathing suits...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Cool. I actually get full sun through the whole middle of the day, as the pool is in a relative clearing in the trees that dot our yard. I'd guess it's full sun maybe 10am - 5pm, but mostly shaded by house or surrounding trees outside of those hours. We get leaves regularly blowing in, as our...

Thanks, Dirk. I think you're stretching a bit with the grand canyon, after all that little creek is moving nearly 100,000 gallons (+/- 40k depending on season) of water per second through that canyon. That's more than 4x the total volume of my pool, every second. Drag a bunch of the softest...

Okay, I'll work up to that. I guess the reason I was resistant is that I've had FC at 3.5% - 5.5% of CYA for more than a year, with zero issues. I know now that's because of the copper and silver in the water, but they're not going away anytime soon. Oh, and since I'm manually dosing, do we...

What's your pH target? I've seen conflicting numbers, but I've been mostly aiming for 7.6.

So, I guess it's time to talk water chemistry, as what I'm running right now is already loaded up with silver, copper, and all the other Frog "minerals". Keeping in mind that Frog recommends lower FC/CYA ratio, thanks to all the other stuff in the water, here's where I'm at today: FC = 2.5 -...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Yeah, I'm sure your winter is harsher. This spring here has been nice and cool, really only a few days even warn enough to use the pool, until the last two weeks. The last two weeks of June finally got hot, but I was out of town those two weeks, and missed it all. Now I'm back in PA, it's...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Thanks, guys! Placing order now. As to digging "over winter", I meant October! That's when I'll have the pool shut down. Our ground doesn't usually freeze until December. In the spring, it's thawed again 2 months before would even consider opening, so plenty of time for that kind of fun...

Doh... my K2006 kit has instructions in the lid for salt test, but lacks the actual reagents to go with it. Oops.

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Didn't see a "convenience kit", but it brings up the more general question: what should I add to the cart with the RJ-45+, before checkout? Bypass tube? cleaning stand? Vertical kit? The vertical kit appears to just be a few elbows, easy to build to my preferred size, if I really even need...

Also, I'm assuming finding unions that are compatible with theirs is probably not trivial. So many manufacturers use uncommon threading on their unions.

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Cool. I'll just string it up with cord glands for this year, and then figure out if I want to put it in conduit or liquid-tight over the winter. I have all of my other wiring below ground in conduit or liquid tight, makes for a nice clean install with no tripping issues...

Oh, and I'll check my salinity later today. Too much happening at my desk right now to get outside. I babysit computers for a living.

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Okay guys... RJ-45+ it is! Once the hardware is here, I'll figure out the best way to get it mounted. If only conduit entry point is on bottom of RJ-45+ controller, then it won't even fit on my panel in the spot I had envisioned, meaning the controller might just go on the pole for now. I can...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

I'm thinking that, if I go CORE, I could probably get this done a bit quicker by skipping the utility panel upgrade. I suspect I have enough blank space on that hunk of mahogany to mount a T-104, but not timer and controller. Back side of my mounting panel has even less space, due to post, and...

Not sure what's in this concrete, it's a colorized exposed aggregate specialty product, and very expensive compared to regular concrete. It's sealed with a good polymer sealer, which should last several years between applications, but of course that only seals the top surface. I do know the...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

That could definitely work. But given we can have outages when I'm out of town, which might put things way out of sync, I'd really like to find a dual timer. That way, even if it's off by time of day, the pump and SWG maintain their relationship.

Out of curiosity, I went hunting for some corrosion index or rate vs. salinity of water or salt spray, thinking it'd be interesting for the discussion. We know the Atlantic runs near 35k ppm, and our salt pools around 3.5k ppm. Most of us with boats or living in coastal environments know how...

I'm an electrical engineer, and we used to own a plumbing business (grew up working as plumber's apprentice). I've also done a ton of commercial electrical work. So I'll be doing everything myself. I'd guess your estimate of 4 ~ 6 hours actual labor is probably reasonable, once I have the...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Thanks! Yeah, you're probably even way colder than us, in most of Minnesota. I blow my lines out with a big shop vac, and then back-fill with a little RV antifreeze, to ensure any water that gets in and settles over winter will be mixing with antifreeze. My only real "trouble spot" is the...
