    Done. Thanks!

    What is "Pool Perfect Total"?

Thanks, mknauss! I won't buy any more. Finish using out the gallon I already have in the cupboard, or just toss it?

Removing stains from white plastic... and keeping them away

Thank you, ajw22! I'll have to see if my wife already has some of those, or pick some up at the store to try. But just to be clear, this isn't what I'd call scum. It really does look like it could be a thin plating of silver on the fiberglass stairs, at least my imagination tells me that.

    What is "Pool Perfect Total"?

Our pool installer instructed us to use this product, Pool Perfect Total, and I'm wondering if I should finish out using what I have or just toss the stuff now that I've converted to TFP methods. I'm also not sure if it's contributing to, or helping with, some of the above the water line...

Removing stains from white plastic... and keeping them away

The white plastic of our skimmer and stairs both have a gray shadow above the water line. It's especially visible on the stairs, where a warning label about diving recently came off, and the area under the label is still bright white. From what I've read on this site, I suspect the staining is...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

That flow switch wire is so tiny and delicate, I'm almost afraid leaving it exposed out there for one night. If a squirrel doesn't strip it, I fear my puppy will. It's tucked under a bucket, right now. Has anyone engineered up a good solution for protecting this wire? I have some ideas of my...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

I cut the Frog and valves out, and re-plumbed today for the RJ-45+. All is good, except the flow switch leaks, where the switch is screwed into the tee at the factory. I'll try removing and adding tape, tomorrow. No other leaks, despite mating to off-plumb ports at each end of this circuit...

    Dumping water

Thanks, guys! In my case, I think the Weir door is tall enough to completely close off the skimmer, so no chance water is just running across the top without at least some help from Bernoulli. But I can see where having the water level too close to the top of the opening could cause debris to...

    Dumping water

No floor drain, just a skimmer. Not sure why, other than maybe because my pool is built into a hillside, and my equipment is all located below the water line, close to the level of the floor in the deep end. Maybe they felt that would cause too many hassles for winterization, etc. I get some...

    Dumping water

During rainy periods, where we're getting more water into the pool than required to make up for evaporation, at what point do you guys make the call to dump water? We don't have municipal water, and it takes 300 gallons from our well for each inch of make-up water, so we try to use that...

    CircuPool RJ-45+ winter storage

Yep, saw that. But I'll just install a NEMA 6-20R on the pump circuit, so I can run it at 240V. Main goal is to remove power from the SWCG if I get a nuisance trip on the GFCI breaker, as I'm running a VFD pump. Got another thread going on the whole VFD/GFCI thing, where I'm trying some...

    CircuPool RJ-45+ winter storage

Thanks, guys! It sounds like I'd better do the receptacle / bring it indoors thing for this winter, and then build myself a roofed panelboard for the long term.

    CircuPool RJ-45+ winter storage

What are folks in northern climes doing with their CircuPool controllers? Wanting mine tagged onto the pump circuit, so the tripping of the interrupt device for the pump will be sure to shut down the SWCG, I'm debating whether to hardware or install a receptacle on that circuit to plug in the...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

Pulled wiring this morning, and it’s all clean and good. Installed EMI line filter in an IP65 box tied to the back of my load center mounting panel, and wired it back up to the CH220 GFCI breaker. Will let it run at least two weeks before calling the issue fixed. The reason I had suspected...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

I'll have to check the bandwidth of my clamp-on ammeter, if it's even published. That could be a good method of measuring common-mode noise, if the thing has at least a few hundred kHz of bandwidth. I suspect most RMS ammeters are filtered way down, though, so most of the noise would not come...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

The EMI filter came yesterday, so this morning I went out in our swamp-like heat and played a bit. Using a cheap scope without onboard FFT, so I can really only look at waveforms, unless I dig out an old copy of MATLAB to import .wav files and FFT them. Here's measuring on the breaker, without...

    Raising Total Alkalinity

Thanks, PoolStored! Yeah, the advice in that thread is exactly what I've been following, minus the sump pump. I put a shower contraption on one of my returns, and it has been working quite well to raise pH back up after an MA addition. I'm just surprised how much MA it is really taking, to...

    Raising Total Alkalinity

I fell victim to Taylor's vague instructions, on testing for alkalinity. I was counting drops to change from green to red (per the instructions in the kit), rather than drop count until it stopped turning redder (per this forum and YouTube). The result is that my efforts to target and hold 100...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

I was wondering about this. I know all the stories of floating in the Dead Sea, but the salinity there is a mind-boggling 330,000 ppm, it must be almost like slurry. I had thought that maybe 3500 ppm was so low, that I'd not even notice the difference. We are very used to swimming in the...

    Switching from Frog to SWCG

Loaded some salt in over the last week, and the last two tests have me at 3400, then 3200 ppm. So, close to target. But now everyone going into the pool is whining it tastes like salt, especially the kids. I really wasn’t expecting that, based on everything I’ve read, about the salinity being...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

Just re-reading this thread now, I think newdude was saying Pentair changed something in their pumps, to reduce nuisance trips with other breakers: In any case, I picked up a cheap 20A / 250V EMI filter. This weekend, I'll pull and inspect the wiring, make sure that's not the cause of the...

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

Excellent. Thanks for the info. In that case, I'll drop the VFD swap idea, and look at maybe trying to filter the line between the breaker and pump VFD.

    GFCI with Pentair VS pumps

Yeah, but if the claim is that Pentair has suppressed the noise from their VFD's sufficiently to eliminate this problem (see @Newdude), then we have to wonder if it was done only on new designs, or folded back into older designs like this VS Supermax. One thing I have yet to verify is that the...
