Green Pool in OKC - Getting ready for Weekend Attack

Ok,

I loaded the bleach last night as if I were taking it to 11, and my numbers this morning are

FC = 9.5
CC = 0.5

It was clear at 19 drops so we will keep pressing. I think I know what might be happening, looking at the pool this morning the liner is not smooth in some places and i can see some tan spaces in the little concave areas. We will get the little brush out on that today. I probably should run another CYA test if my sock is empty tonight and get the right FC target number. I don't want to waste the CYA.

BTW, something just occurred to me adding new chlorine... I had 4 pucks left over from last season when i had no idea what i was doing. I put those in the pool 10 days ago, I think they are still dissolving... Is that going to affect my OCLT test, as in make it higher than it should be? Reason I use was because I know they add CYA and i need that (even though I have the sock), and I did not want to waste them.

But remember that your CYA can take up to a week to show on the test.

What you do is base your test numbers on the amount of CYA already in the pool EVEN if it does not show up on the test. What was your target CYA when you added it in the sock? Use THAT number to base your FC needs on.

Kim

It was either 0 or 10, there was nothing...

Ok what kimkats is asking here is, knowing your CYA was 0-10, how much CYA did you add/what was your goal outcome from that addition? example: added 2lbs to raise CYA to 30 (those are totally random numbers for my example)

If you added x amount of CYA that should raise your CYA to x amount, you should now raise your FC level to match your new CYA level. It isn't going to show up on the CYA test for up to a week but you know it's in there because you dissolved it. So treat it like your CYA is at that new level. You'll test 1 week after the CYA addition to see how close to your goal you got and then adjust more if you need to.

:)

Yeah what that ^^^^^^^^^^^ says! THANKS!

Ok, i got this... So the question...

I assume this does not matter, but if I assume I was talking it to 30 with what I added and take the chlorine level to 12, but CYA is really at 10 right now (which I can't know until I test in a week) will my OCLT test be harder to pass with the increased chlorine level over the CYA recomended number? Will it make a difference?

You guys are all awesome...

It will not make a difference.

What you are looking for is-------------will the FC hold overnight? It should if there is nothing in the water to eat it. You have to make sure it is tested after dark in the pm and before light in the am. You do not want any chance of the sun affecting the level of FC.

You are doing a great job!

Ahhhh, key detail there... Will test right at or before sunrise..
Wife checked at like 10:00 this morning and we are at 11.5 for FC and 0 for CC... So I am thinking we pass tonight. Next questions are, once I pass the test...
1. How often do I test and add chlorine
2. How often do I sweep
3. How often do perform all the TF100 tests
4. Do you normally add extra chlorine after the pool has been used?
5. Finally, does the OTO tester measure FC or TC? I ask because if it only measures TC do I assume that CC = 0, that could be a problem

1. Test FC and PH daily. Add when needed
2. I sweep every day
3. Recomended you perfor all test weekly, but you could skip CH test and only test CYA once a month or after adding a lot of water.
4. You can as a precaution. Just an extra 2ppm
5. It only measures TC

My husband's only job is to sweep the walls at least every third day. He tries for every other day but ........

He walks in the pool for exercise and that does a good job of stirring up the bottom. I run my cleaner (wanda the whale) 2 or 3 times a week depending on need.

I test and add FC every evening. PH every other day. Full test (CYA and TA) once on the weekend.

I know my pools needs after having it so long. I can tell after the rain what it needs BUT I still test to make sure.

If I add water I let the pump run for 30 mins after I take the hose out and run a test to see if I need to adjust anything.

You will learn YOUR pools needs. It will tell you when it is in need of some attention LOL

CC = 0

8:00

CC = 0.5

We had a strange thing happen that I might have to post elsewhere because it is way off topic but could cause me to fail the OCLT. I have the attached hottub, and I have been running the return there very lightly... Tonight I opened it wide open so that flowed a the max to see if it would cloud like it did last year. Two things happened:

1. The returns did cause the hot tub to become cloudy, not nearly as bad as last year.
2. The water coming out of that return was warm, very odd. Because the heater is turned off as in disconnected from electricity, and the gas is shut off to it.

For number 1: If the lines are not used for 4-5 days does the water become stagnant and therefore would cause the clouding?

For number 1: There are actually 2 returns in the hot tub, one is a pipe, the other utilizes a normal hot tub jet that does not function when the other hot tub jets are running, so its just a return too... That hot tub jet return is a little loose, what is behind there, sand? In Oklahoma we have red dirt and I would expect to see red dirt.

For number 2: What in the world?

Any thought here?
