New Pool -- Southlake, TX (near Dallas)

plaster crew hard at work this morning. I got a kick out of their special footwear, tools, and the system they rigged overhead for water sprayers.

Here are two shots of the pool in the afternoon of day 26 -- plaster day. Since we chose Pebblesheen, there is a day two tomorrow when they will acid wash the finish and buff it to even things out and reveal the pebbles to a greater extent.

Here is a close-up of the shallow end. FYI, the color is Blue Granite. It still needs acid washing and buffing tomorrow.

Great pool. We are getting the Blue Granite mini pebble also just from stonescapes instead of pebbletech. Your build is going very smoothly! We got coping and tile today. Probably won't get plaster until the end of next week.

How exciting !
Let the swimming begin - soon ... :)

How long is Claffey's startup period?

I honestly don't know (yet).

I have a lot to learn about startup process. Now that the "build" phase is nearing completion I will be focusing on startup and usage and maintenance.

Here we are in less than four weeks and water is going into the pool! How lucky we have been for this to go so quickly.

**water going in!** Re: New Pool -- Southlake, TX (near Dall

I wonder what the over/under is for when the pool will be full? :?: :?: :?:

Here is what it looked like when I got home from work a few minutes ago after about 6 hours of filling............this will take a while in part because we live at the top of a hill and have relatively low water pressure.

Woohoo! Congrats on the quick build...man that was fast. You ought to have some water in there by now. I don't get what you mean by the under/over thing.

Ha! My sense of warped humor is often unclear to anyone....what I meant by the over/under was a take-off on the betting pool concept of trying to pick in advance the final score of a game and seeing who comes closest to the actual score.....over or under.

So I was jokingly saying that in my family we each chose an estimated completion time and we wanted to see who came closest to being right, who was over and who was under.

As it turns out, we are at 26 hours and still counting with 3 garden hoses (added a third this morning). Really low water pressure at my house means low flow rate (GPM) from the hose(s). It does look like it will be full by about 10:00 PM tonight if my estimate of rise rate is correct. So it will end up being 33 hours to fill a 25,500 (estimated) gallon pool. So even with three hoses from 3 different faucets I only get approximately 13 GPM combined.

My hubby told me that I was wrong when I said I was going to turn on 3 hoses, (all from the same house) that it would fill faster, he said it decreases the pressure. That one would fill just as fast.

I hate to get into a domestic dispute, but I think you are the one who is right in this scenario.

When filling a pool you need to get X gallons into the pool to fill it up. To dtermine how long it will take, it is flow rate that matters as measured in gallons per minute (GPM). Pressure is only ONE factor in determining flow rate. Other factors include diameter of hose(s), and length of hose(s), elevation change, etc..

If you add another hose, you will almost certainly increase flow rate because you are doubling the diameter, assuming the hoses are the same. There will be some drop in pressure, but it will undoubtedly be offset by increased flow rate from the increased diameter.

There is an easy test of flow rate:

1, get a bucket that holds a gallon or more.
2. Time how long it takes to fill with one hose and calculate GPM
3. Time how long it takes to fill with two hoses running and calculate GPM.

In my case the increase in GPM was dramatic going from 1 hose to 2 hoses and still quite significant going from 2 hoses to 3. Of course filling the upstairs bathtub became an hour long task while all 3 hoses were running :)

Beautiful pool and setting!!
Did your PB contractually have a finish date or incentive to finish quickly? I am trying to figure out why a few builds finish in a month or so but most drag on forever. My guess is, it has something to do with $$.
Congrats again, enjoy the summer!!!
