Tee Shaped pool in Alabama * UPDATED PICS 4/21/13

Feb 2, 2013
33
We have rain forecasted for tomorrow and possibly snow flurries for Friday...So cross your fingers that the weatherman is wrong and that the pb will get lots of beautiful and dry days to work on my pool.

I'll post pics as it progresses. This first pic was taken after we removed the privacy fence and had lots & lots of trees cut down. There's a lot of work to be done on the ground before the pb can even start the pool.

Re: New pool build in Alabama

You must be one of them yankee Alabamians! It's supposed to rain down here but I don't want to hear nuthin bout no snow!

That's a big pool if my guess is correct. If I'm right, the filter and swg is going to be too small. How many gallons is it supposed to be?

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

Yes, I'm in North Alabama but cannot believe there is a possibility of snow!!! Could be as much as 2" but it should be very short lived, thankfully. Weather in my area is so interesting...it was upper 70's & sunny over the weekend and this weekend it will be in the 30's/40's...

As far as the filter goes...after posting a thread about my pool specs, I got feedback that my filter was too small so I spoke with my pb and he agreed and we are going with a larger sand filter. We had originally decided on a smaller pool but after signing the contract went with a larger one and so the filter info I had was from the smaller pool. However, you're the first person to mention the pump being too small. Should I consult with my pb about going with a larger one?

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

You don't state what size the pump actually is and you didn't in the other thread either. I'm sorry I missed it before but the Max-Flo isn't a variable speed pump. You need to find out exactly which pump you're getting.

I went back and looked and if you're getting the T-Cell-15, it'll be plenty big enough.

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

That should be the T-Cell-15 so you're good there.
I just went back and looked and they do make a Max-Flo VS so that's good too.
As long as you're getting a larger filter everything should be fine.

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

Curious...

Do you know your planned pool volume (I ask since I am not sure how to figure out your volume from the dimensions you gave)?

What filter size are you now planning on getting?

I've figured it at about 31k/32k gallons...not sure about the filter size but know that its bigger. I'll find out & post it. Thanks!
That will be a big pool. For your ~31000 gallon pool we would recommend a minimum of 5.8 sq. ft (33" diameter) sand filter, or minimum 560 sq. ft. cartridge, or minimum 86 sq. ft DE filter.

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama FINIALLY DIGGING!! Wh

After a very wet and cold several weeks, our pool build has finally started!
Day 1 was spent prepping the yard for the pool. There was lots of leveling to be done.
Day 2, the pb laid out/painted the pool design on the ground and started digging...at the end of day 2 I had a shallow end  Hopefully tomorrow will be dry again and he'll get the rest of the pool dug out.

FYI...for those who have brought the filter size to my attention, I am going with a cartridge filter now that will be plenty big enough for this size pool. Thanks again to everyone that brought that to my attention!

So, here's some pics from the first 2 days.. Nothing too exciting for most people but for me it awesome!! As you can see in the pics, my girls are quite excited too!

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

DAY 3

PB got the shallow end dug out and also the slope going into the deep end. Just a little more digging and we'll be ready to move to the next step of the build. Rain is in the forecast :(

DAY 4

Well, weatherman was right...unfortunately! The rains came and the pool filled up :( PB says he'll have to pump the water out. We are supposed to have about 3 days of sun then rain moving back in. SOOOOOO discouraging. I'm beginning to think this pool will never get finished!!

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

The rainwater will go away and you'll be swimming in no time. I noticed on your first picture the side of the house where you are putting the pool looks like a great place to add a pergola or covered outdoor kitchen. Keep posting pictures

Re: Pool under construction in Alabama

Thanks for the encouraging words. The pb pumped the water out yesterday so hopefully in another day or two the ground will be dry enough for them to start digging again. Of course there is rain in the forecast for tomorrow:(
@4Knights, I agree, a pergola would be great on the side of the house!

Pool under construction in Alabama UPDATED PICS 4/8/13

After a 10 day break in the build due to flooding rains, the build is back on!!

Day 4 they finished digging the pool and got the walls put into the pool. Tomorrow they will be putting the walls in place and putting concrete in. By the end of Tuesday it should start resembling a pool!!

I apologize for the pics not being very good but I didn't get home until late last night and so I headed out early this morning to get my pics and was caught, by the pb, taking pool pics in my jammies  HOW EMBARRASSING! The ONE day he shows up before 7am and I'm out there...

So excited about the new pool....I'm getting the margarita maker ready for pool season as I type

He may have caught you in your Jammie's but he could have caught you in nothing. Had some unexpected company one evening when we wee in the Hottub. Good thing for the bubbles :)

Day 5 of the pool build...

PB put the walls and supports in and poured the concrete around the base of the walls. Starting the plumbing tomorrow! It's starting to look like a pool!! I better reread pool school so that I'll be ready once the pool gets finished :-D

Day 6 of the pool build...

PB got all the plumbing in and both the lights as well as got the pump and filter set up. Forecast is calling for torrential rains tomorrow so the pb put a tarp over the pool to keep the bottom dry. He's ready to put the Pool Krete in. PB said he'll need 4 dry days to get the Pool Krete finished and the liner in..Crossing my fingers that the rain misses us..
