Hi, my 30K gallon pool was opened on Monday and was filled with algae (couldn't see the bottom step in the shallow end) and muck (permeable cover). I followed the SLAM procedure, and it worked great. I used about 9 to 10 gallons of 12% liquid chlorine over the course of the week with daily backwash (sometimes twice in a day) as the filter would go from 20 to 30 psi quickly. I ran a Polaris 825 robot many hours a day too. Bottom line is that by this morning, the SLAM is done (clear water, OCLT passed and CC less than 0.5). A pretty intense process actually with all the backwashing and robot cleaning, but the pool required it.

So now the pool is at 10 ppm FC with ~35 CYA. Should I lower FC to ~3.0 using thiosulphate and then test or can I test accurately at 10 ppm FC?

If your FC is at 10 or less, all the tests are accurate.
Above FC 10, the pH test is not valid.

Your "measured" CYA of 35 gets rounded up to 40. You can't accurately read between the lines on the test vial.
Use the FC/CYA Levels chart to dose FC correctly. Dose for the high side of the FC range to provide some wiggle room. Stay far away from minimum - unless you enjoy doing the SLAM Process over and over again.
