Help! I can’t get water to clear up

Those are 50 micron filters.

Unicel, Pleatco, and Filbur are all large and reliable suppliers of filter cartridges, which are typically 10-20 micron.

Have you done an OCLT yet? Do that, let’s see where we are…link —>Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
Ok I’m willing to try anything!
We can buy new filters that are 10-20 micron.
I usually test right before I go to bed but haven’t tried before the sun rises, by the time I test the sun is usually up. I’ll try to do it earlier tomorrow morning and log it.

Ordered pleatco replacement filters. They will be here tomorrow.
OCLT FC=11.5, CC=0.5 at night; FC=10.5, CC=1 before sunrise
No change in what the water looks like

Photo tonight
I was able to do more frequent testing today.
New filters should arrive by tomorrow

Great job on the additions. I know it is hard.
Hope the filters help.
Do me a solid, clean your vials with rubbing alcohol and dry well before you test again. This will remove any residue that can interfere with test...can cause CC to be higher.

Today’s photo. It has been pouring all day, probably 2” of rain. So it’s getting diluted.
Filters just arrived. Will try to swap those out before it gets dark so they can run overnight.

Today’s photo
Today is the 1st day I can say that I am seeing a little progress. When standing right next to it I can sort of see the bottom of shallow end.
Progress is progress 👍🏻
It can help to also have something in the water like the brush & pole to get an idea of how far down into the abyss you can really see when you take your daily snapshot

Definitely moving in the right direction, just slowly…
Can definitely see bottom of shallow end but can’t see anything yet in deep end.
My husband who is not very patient wants to add clarifier?
I keep saying no and to just stick with this process, but he’s threatening to put in in when I’m not looking 😂

No clarifier - its not needed.
Why?
Well, if you add clarifier and it works (sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t & causes more problems) then you are falsely passing one of the most important end of slam criteria - the Crystal clear one.
Many people pass the other two (oclt & cc) well before they pass this one but the job is obviously not done. You need all 3 for real.
You want to truly eradicate the algae & prove it, not just stick a bandaid on it and call it good only to have to do this again shortly down the road.
While there are instances when a good clarifier is called for - you aren’t quite there yet.
Stay the course 💪
Do all the things 👇
*Clean your filters when psi rises 25% over clean pressure
*maintain slam fc level as often as you can. 4x’s a day if you’re able to
*Brush or vac daily and scrub all nooks & crannies - light niches, drains, skimmer throats/weirs etc.

Sorry missed a day or 2 of photos. It’s looking really good. (And he did not use any clarifier!). You can see bottom of deep end now. I definitely could see a quarter but haven’t tried to see if I could read heads/tails.
CC has stayed at 0.5 for several days
Overnight test I did again last night and it dropped from 14 to 11 🤔
So I’m assuming that means I need to keep doing this….

1 question I have is once I do pass all 3 tests then I can turn salt cell on? Add more stabilizer (I’m using 30 since I put enough in at beginning to get to 30) but both times I’ve tried testing for stabilizer I can still see the bottom dot very clearly at 30 so I’m assuming it’s actually less than that. And run all the tests to see if anything else needs to be adjusted? How long after the SLAM would those tests be accurate?
Thank you!

Yes, but. Do you have a K-1766 salt test? i.e. how did you test 4800 salt 4 days ago...your salt tests have been all over the place for the last week. Let's get a good salt result from your kit before we decide what to do.

For CYA test, follow these instructions:

And post full set of results. FC, CC, pH, TA, CH, CYA, Salt.

Remove that ladder. Scrub inside and out. Ask me how I know... Also, if you have a light, remove the light and scrub behind the light. If you have a main drain, remove the cover and scrub the main drain.

Ok, you asked: SLAM, Rain, Dissapointment.

Made my SLAM 2 days longer.

Here is the brush I used INSIDE the ladder:

Salt test is the one that came with my kit. R-0630 1 drop then R-0718 till it turns salmon.
We added salt shortly after opening pool, actually less than what the suggested amount was so I was surprised it was so high. But we have not tried to turn generator on at all yet.
Stabilizer I’ve followed those directions except for going outside in sunlight. Should I add some then test? Or try testing for stabilizer in sunlight 1st?
I would need to add more chlorine to get to slam level if I bring up stabilizer right? So I’d think wait?
The ladder he just put in on Monday. It didn’t appear to have any algae or anything on it when we put it in but I can check. We do have a light, I can have him check behind it. When he has taken it out in years past there has been a lot of junk behind it.
No main drain

Thank you!

Follow the link on CYA test. (above) light is important.

Bacteria can grow inside the ladder...consuming FC.

Yep! Scrub behind the light!
