Hey folks,

Not sure if this is expected or if I am doing something wrong but i have an above ground pool. I use a manual vacuum where the hose is placed inside the skimmer. I close the main bottom drain with the diverter to increase the suction of the vacuum and the seal of the vacuum inside the skimmer is always flush, no chance for air getting in.

My issue i notice is when vacuuming, i can see a lot of air builds up in the pump, like it is almost half air in there. I feel like this isn’t normal but I also am new to this so maybe i am overreacting? I just assume their should never been that much air in my pump.

I always fill the vacuum hose up with water using the return jet before putting it into the skimmer, i just don’t get where the air is coming from during this process.

Do you fill your hose with water before connecting to the skimmer? Do you have any leaks in the hose?
Yeah i forgot to mention that so i edited the original. I always fill the hose with water using the return jet before attaching to skimmer. I haven’t noticed any leaks in the hose.

How old is the hose? With age, it can get cracks between the corrugations in the hose. Also, it can get small holes in the ribs as it is unrolled and rolled on the deck before putting it in the water. You could try having someone get in the pool and hold the hose below the surface of the water. If the air disappears, you will know you have a small crack or pin hole somewhere in the hose.

Yeah might have to give that a try. Not sure how old the hose is but probably about 3-4 years, i inherited it from the previous owner and i think that is how long they have had the pool.
