Please help!
Opened pool on Sunday. Had to raise water to filter level. Started running filter once water to level. We had a lot of what looked like dead algae all of the pool bottom, smelly, light green, cloudy water. First time opening ourselves. I read about the SLAM process. I waited til filter ran and tested next day.
FC 2
CC1.5
pH 8.2
TA 140
CH 325
CYA 0
SALT 2800
TEMP 65
We have a salt cell, 30k gal pool unite. Cartridge filter started clean on opening. We have vacuumed and brushed. I know some of the numbers were out of range but the SLAM checklist said CYA to 30 (I added 8lbs granular in sock in filter) and lowered ph. I started SLAM yesterday. CLEAR water today but the CCs are rising and the FC falling. Tonight tested and FC only .6 and CC 3 so I added 3.5 gallons of liquid chlorine per TFP app and then tested 30 mins later and FC same and CC 4! How is this possible?? Please help, Im panicking. I'm using the Taylor test kit and I bought new reagents this year. Im visioning emptying my pool and starting new! Ive been testing since last year. I thought I was getting good at it and saving compared to the pool store selling me nonsense!

You are killing algae and creating CC. That is precisely what the SLAM Process should do.

Why are you panicking?

Now keep it up .... maintain the FC level until you meet the three exit criteria. When you FC can pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test with 0 CC you will have an algae free pool.

Okay, so it is normal for the CC to rise? 30 mins after adding chlorine the FC still registers until 1ppm? It is raining a ton here in NJ so we will soon need to backwash, does that matter?

It’s all about patience. Let the SLAM process work. Continue to test every 4-5 hrs and raise FC back up to SLAM level.

We are trying to help to avoid draining 30k gals and you still may have algae when you refill.
pool is clear so Im happy with that. I added stabilizer to reach 30 however testing after 24 hrs, it's still low. Im guessing 20 since my vial only goes to 30.
When you say raise FC to SLAM level I add per pool math app but I never actually get to that level is that normal?

On the PM app, on the FC icon, do you switch on the SLAM mode? That will give you the higher SLAM level for FC.
If you add LC per the recommendation it should get close to the targeted FC level - unless the LC is old (degraded) or your pool volume is slightly off.

yes for my cya it says FC 13, typically then adding 3.5 gallons 10% liquid chlorine since Monday. Ive gone through 18 gal which seems crazy!

It is best to take a photo of your pool every day about the same time (24 hrs between photos). This way you can see progress across several days.
Just continue to test and add liquid chlorine as needed to SLAM level.
