For the past at least 10 years I have used a 90 day algaecide in my pool in the North Fl summer months. This past winter because of health issues I lost my pool for the first time ... Green/black a mud pit. Anyway all fixed for the past month but Ive not had the sparkly water Ive had all my pool use days. 2 days ago I put in my 90 day algae prevention copper based and my pool is super sparkly again ... finally. So Ive read about potential issues with hair, equipment and God knows what else. I don't want to start an argument but I find it much easier to use the "liquid chlorine" method (more forgiving) for taking care of my pool.

WHY should I not use Copper in my pool? Looking for answers. IS it dangerous in some way to my and others health? Oh I have a cheap ... cheaper than an in-ground pool 16x32 Intex pool that I love and have loved for 4 years now. Way cheaper and easier to maintain than a $45,000 hole in the ground.
 
Copper is an effective algaecide but nothing more. It is not a sanitizer.

If you are happy with your method of pool care, it is not for TFP to try to talk you out of it. TFP's purpose is to teach a method that safely and effectively keeps your pool clear.

I hope you take the time to read the article in Pool School that will teach you the correct way to manage your pool water. You certainly are NOT doing that now.

Gallons are gallons and the chemistry doesnt care how much you spent getting those gallons.

Algae free is different from being sanitary. Copper is not a contact killer so how much bacteria and such you wish to bathe in, is up to you.

Is the copper 11.8% the concentration of copper in your water now or what’s in the algaecide? Copper algaecide is more expensive than chlorine and doesn’t sanitize the water(it just kills algae).
 
My pool is 15,000 gallons I put in as directed, 24 ounces one time until the 3 months are gone by. That's it. I use the liquid chlorine method of maintaining my pool. So I try to keep my strength at around a 2 - 3 on the lil chlorine/ph gauge. It's good for at least 3-4 months. At least the one I have used

I might have worded my post wrong. Lol I use liquid chlorine the 10%+ version at my pool/ hardware store. Currently about a quart a day of chlorine for my 15,000 gallons keeps me at the correct level 1.5-3. My CYA is 40, the ph 7.4 everyday. Total alkalinity 100 My calcium in an Intex vinyl pool is at 200 so not high at all. Over the years people have asked how do I keep my pool so sparkly. They ask how often I shock the pool. I tell them never, I don't need to.

I'm a bit irritated that I a pool user of ten years y'all think I'm some kind of useless pool owner. Rather what I'm politely trying to suggest the 90 day version of algaecide I use provides what I call a finishing touch to the sparkle of my water. During our very long summer I might use it twice. But one springtime addition along with topping off the CYA brings my pool back to perfect. So based on what anyone has posted I see no health reason to not use it once maybe twice a year. Lol I haven't had a blonde scream yet at me 😁

Yes I have been using the suggested test kit here for over 10 years. If you use chlorine that strong you'll destroy very quickly solar blankets. There's more I can say but I can see that no one wants to answer why the copper once or twice a year might be bad.

Rather you want to be the expert for my pool. Lol and my background circumstances you know nothing about. Again copper is what I asked about all you guys are talking about something entirely different because I believe y'all not reading what I wrote in my original post
 
Copper stains pools and it's only use is to kill active algae. We have other methods for that which will not introduce copper staining to our pools and still kills algae - if we even get it. Keeping FC at the high end of the range dictated by your CYA level is key to that. Using a SWG to keep the FC up in the pool is secondary to that but very reliable and cost-effective. Your signature is lacking in detail of your full equipment and testing kit. It's your pool and you can do what you want with it but we are just trying to get you to understand why we don't introduce copper anything in our pools.

You need to go back to the basics. Tap water with 0 CYA and up to 4 FC has many times the active HOCL content of our pools, even when we slam at 40% of our CYA. I bring my pool to 28 FC for parties and people comment how nice it is with no chlorine. The industry doesnt recognize the CYA/FC relationship so that's why they max at 3 FC.

Having a pool for ten years and being a member of this site for seven years while demonstrating how poorly you understand water chemistry definitely paints a picture. What kind of response did you expect from promoting poor water management on TFP?
 
My pool always sparkles except when I got sick this winter and I lost it for the first time in over 10 years. It took 3.5 weeks to turn the pool back to what it once was using the "slam" method. I can say this and others said it a while ago, I should have emptied my pool and started over. My water cost would have been $45 . I spent near $200 or so using a gazillion gallons of chlorine (obviously exaggerating) But until I put the 90 day algaecide preventer in two days ago my pool did not glisten/sparkle. NO ONES HAIR HAS EVER TURNED GREEN IN MY POOL! Again all I used was 24 ounces ... this will last until the fall. Any of you who are using solar covers and keep you pool at 4 plus ... you are making your cover deteriorate much quicker than it should. The blankets are not cheap. MY TWO CENTS

You can win a dozen times at Russian Roulette too, until you don't.

If you don't perfectly balance the copper additions with rain overflow/ draining, and you can't even test it to know how you're doing, it will eventually bite you.

If you maintained a proper CYA/FC level, the water would be stoopid clear with no copper. There is no need to add it.

Well, proof of that would be needed since it's just a fixated industry standard. Failed blankets are probably the result of UV rays and thin materials, not to mention that nothing is made as well as it used to be made years ago. Heck, fiberglass pool manufacturers give one FC number, pool equipment manufactures give another, heater manufacturers give another. Salt water chlorine generator manufacturers still put in their manuals to periodically acid wash their salt cells but we know that eats away the Ruthenium that is on the cell plates and shortens the life of the cell. We do not espouse that and recommend different methods of cleaning cells. Kudos to you and your copper algaecide since it apparently serves you well. We won't give it a chance to do that, as you have found. It's surprising you haven't noticed that in all the years you have been on the forum.

You sir have a problem. Your quote way back (IS it dangerous in some way to my and others health?) I asked why is it frowned upon here to use Copper Algae "Preventitive" I asked is it risky to one health. I use it according to the manufacturer. I maintain my pool with liquid chlorine nothing else. I never use tabs. So again reading your answer above ... Go pound sand buddy. You know nothing about the chemical that has copper in it do you? You are not a expert on that.
Are you a chemist perhaps ... I doubt it. If you were you would answered the one question I had. I did not say I was using copper algaecide as a sanitizer. We both know that's dangerous and stupid ... and will not work.
