Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

Ok. I removed quite a few leaves… and worms. I had a new skimmer put in after season last year and they drained water. I about died- thought I had a leak. For the first time- I opened myself last year. Going to do so again this year. I always have pool company close, but I did tons of prep work last year. And I waited…..weather is hot this week- time to start opening up.

Opened today. Doesn't look too bad in the picture, but there was definitely algae starting to bloom. Mostly just dirt. I have a mesh cover, so a lot of fine dirt gets in. All in all, not too bad. I got the pump running and dumped a couple gallons of chlorine in it and gave it a good brushing. I'll do testing and balancing in a couple days. My main objective today was to get chlorine in it.

Just opened the cover 1hr ago to start things up. Clear as a bell and 59F water temp. Will run things for a day and see what the chemistry is like. Little white pedals from the adjacent blooming
crab apple blowing into the pool I could do without though

Now that’s what I’d call a TFP pool! Did you close at slam level?

Sigh. Pool is open and it looks like absolute garbage. I have to find a way next winter to keep the edges of the cover down better. So many worms still get under there (giant blob in the center) and this year a ton of other debris blew in.
Yours looks a lot like mine. Never fear! It will clear up lickety-split. Do you have a mesh cover? I do. It's still in good shape, but I'm considering switching to a solid cover when it's time to replace.

Opened today. Water is 54. We have a mesh cover and a zillion trees, so it's always murky, but this isn't as bad as some years. Thanks to TFP, it will be clear before it's warm enough to swim. In the meantime, we'll do pressure washing, flowers, and patio furniture---if it ever stops raining here in Southwest Ohio.

I took the cover off today, but neglected to take a picture. The water is crystal clear, but there are quite a few worms and salamanders at the bottom. How do they get in there? Yuck! I got most of them out with the pole skimmer and ran my robo vacuum. I am grateful there were no drowned chipmunks or mice this year. It will be a couple of weeks before we break out the pump and filter, but I will take a photo when we do.

It will be a couple of weeks before we break out the pump and filter,
With the cover off the daily UV demand is back. The sun isn't super high in the sky yet but it's enough that you'll have 70s Monday and Tuesday.

Either put the cover back on or use a submersible pump to disperse chlorine as needed.

Just opened today and am very pleased considering we have a leaf cover, and I expected a fair bit of debris to make it through. There was a bit on the steps, mostly because we have 2 anchor points for the cover that aren't installed yet because they need to go into pavers This was my first year owning a pool, and I closed TFP method. Picture was a couple minutes after the cover came off, could see bottom pretty clearly.

Was out of town, so had to open several weeks later than I usually do. I try to get it done a few days after they declare ice out for my local lake (3/28 this year). So a month late.
Water temp a balmy 46F. Algae has already gotten a foothold, so that stuff about it being too cold for algae is bunk. Dumped in a couple of gallons of the salt water in a jug (old chlorine) I had around. Will test and get on with cleaning and SLAM in the next couple of days (big storm coming tomorrow). I've had better, but many times far worse, openings!

Cold just slows it way down-
You’ll have it sparkling ✨ in no time!

Here is our pool

We put a dark cover that does not let the water permeate and then used a pool cover pump to remove the rain and snow water.

Had some debris under the the cover that we vacuumed.

We do have a mesh cover - came with the house and pool. It's still in excellent shape so no plans to replace it any time soon. I really am considering some water bags or sand bags this year on the edges of the cover around the concrete to keep the worms from crawling under. It's so disgusting.
