We just moved into a house and have a inground fiberglass pool that is roughly 20,000 gallons. I just opened it and shocked it and it's looking good. I just came across this website/app and ordered the pro test kit. I have been running through all the information on here but couldn't find anything about in-line or floating chlorinator. My pool does not have an inline set up and when I opened it it had a floating chlorinator in it. Was that just for the winter or do I need it during the summer? Or do I just test regularly and add to the pool as needed. Thanks in advance for any advice. I am looking forward to diving in deeper and learning more.

I will also share with you the short of why not use any kind of solid chlorine such as pucks and tablets in your pool. Each puck adds something extra along with the chlorine. Some add extra CYA and some add extra calcium. Both are okay in small, controlled amounts but too much of them is not good for your pool.

Thank you so much! I wish I would have found this place a few days sooner. I let the local pool company talk me into 25lbs of shock unfortunately!

When your test kit gets there do the CYA test and let me know what it is at. If it is low enough then you can use the stuff they sold you. We shall see when you are able to test.

My test won't be in until Friday. I was nervous waiting that long and wanted to dive down and get a pool drain cover installed since I had the day off. So I took a sample in here were the results. They did have me add the bicarb which in hindsight hope I didn't mess anything up for this program. I also had some chlorine neutralizer from previous owner that I used to get the chlorine level down to 3 so I could get in and work on drain cover.

I also just tested chlorine and ph with the cheap test kit they left from last year. Looks like chlorine level is at .5 now and ph is the same. We did get 6 inches of rain this past weekend. We do have more coming this week as well. If CYA is to high then I can buy some liquid chlorine and try and sell this powder shock to a buddy at a discount price.
 
If your CYA truly is 80 you shouldn't have lowered your chlorine level. Please dont add anything else other than liquid chlorine until YOU test your own water. You need to add 5ppm of liquid chlorine in a day until your test kit arrives and you can find out your actual levels.

Ok can you please explain further. My pool is 25,500 gallons. So how much liquid shock would that be to raise 5ppm?
 
The cal hypo isn’t a must sell at this point. Just be aware it will increase your calcium levels every time you make an addition with it. It’s not bad to have around, just know what the effects are when you add it. That’s classic TFP. Only add what you need, and know exactly what it’s going to do before adding…..
