We moved into our house 2 weeks ago. It has a 20,000 gallon chlorine pool with a sand filter. I had the pool company remove the cover, remove plugs and turn on everything. While removing the mesh cover, they practically dumped everything that was on top of the cover into the pool . My poor Dolphin AC 30 sweeper can't keep up (clogging frequently). I bought my TFTest Kit pro. I don't know whether to focus on cleaning out all the debris or focus on chemistry first. I'm thinking let the chemistry start working while I'm working on getting all the stuff out of the pool. Should I drain a large portion of the water or let the CYA levels guide that decision? I can almost guarantee there is ZERO chlorine in this pool.

I used the TFP method for my pool many years ago and had crystal clear, low maintenance results. (see prior posts) I want to get back to that ASAP.

I dunno, it looks like the water isn’t that bad and just lots of debris on the floor. Not much worse than mine was a few weeks ago. I just ran the vacuum over and over and netted as much as I could off the floor. Totally up to you on how to do it.

Tested the chemistry and was pleasantly surprised
FC and CC - 0 ppm (no surprise)
pH - 7.5
TA - 70 ppm
CYA - 60 (YEA!!)
CH - 450 ppm

Will SLAM it with liquid chlorine (added the only 2 gallons I had. Suggested amt is 4.8 gallons.

Added 6 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine. FC jumped to 34 and CC to 3. I believe the previous owner way over estimated the pool’s capacity. CYA still at 60.

Should I just let the chlorine dissipate? Rain is expected for much of the weekend.

It’ll be fine just keep brushing and cleaning debris out

Stay the course. This was my pool upon opening last year. A weeklong SLAM cleared it up.
One thing I always suggest - take a photo of the pool multiple times a day during a slam - you can then string all the photos together and you will see the change happening. Sometimes it's easy to think no progress is being made when it really is ;)
