Brown Algae??? Dirt?

Got the filter cleaned with TSP. Worked most of the day Monday and tested as soon as I got home FC=2,CC=0. I bumped the FC back to slam to get thru the night. Small amounts of brown on the surface. Cleaned and brushed. SO I think my next step is to a 24 Hr Mustard Algae treatment. And if the brown stuff continues, I guess its pollen. I read the complete article on MA and this stuff is not acting like MA based on the article. But, will see. I have to go get more bleach

Update. Just did the last Mustard Algae treatment about 730P (FC of 30). I have noticed the brown stuff has decreased a fair amount.
Is it a result of the MA treatment or because the weather here in N.Texas has a good amount rain recently, nocking down the pollen count? I guess I will have a better idea in the morning. Still running pump and SWG off.

New day, after 24hrs+ of Mustard Algae treatment, the brown is slowly showing up again. So....pollen??
I have scrubbed the inside of the filter housing, the strainer basket at the pump, cleaned the swg cell and assy, skimmers, unscrewed the light and cleaned behind it.
I will look into some kind of screen to put on the return jets. I have poured enough bleach in the pool to float a boat...LOL.

Go to Walmart or wherever and buy a cheap kiddie wading pool. Set it up, full of fresh water, on the deck near your real pool. Maybe add a few splashes of CL if so inclined. Watch it for a few days - does it get the dirt also? If so, something environmental - dirt, pollen, etc. If not, then you have algae growing in your real pool.

I'm inclined to blame the leftovers on pollen, which was likely present this whole time but less visible.

I'd let it drift back to target range and stay just above it for now, falling back to high target with the daily loss. Pollen will take 2 or 3 weeks to subside. Even when it pours or the wind howls, it seems to be full strength the next day. Lol.

I think I am inclined to follow that for now and once my FC target level reaches 10 or slightly less, then I will test and adj my PH. And continue to brush and vac daily and change out filter more often

Made first test this morning around 1130A after returning system back to normal. FC=4, a little lower than I wanted, PH +++8. The brown stuff appeared to be a little less, but never got worse or appeared to grow.. So continuing to brush and vac. Started adding muratic acid in small amounts to work on the high PH. Attached is a photo from this morning.
I am gonna go out on a limb here and say after pouring a lot of bleach in the pool over the last few days, and the brown stuff has neither gotten any larger or gone away.
That this must a pollen / air bore thing

Think you're spot on. We're a bit up the road in DFW Metroplex. Tons of blown brown/red dust for a week followed by 2+ weeks of continual pollen. Our pollen is a yellow/greenish color but then quickly transitions to a dark yellow/light brown once in pool.

Thank you for your reply from the local area...I was going crazy with this
Only wish I'd replied a week ago!

Yeah, it's been ridiculous. I could head into the office with a clean car and by the afternoon you'd think the car was repainted neon yellow/green... Was glad to this weekend's rain to help clean things off.

Dusting has decreased a lot...still getting some though. Been working on getting FC back to some sort of normal level, say 8-10.
Have got the PH back to a manageable. Ever since I have been trying get my FC up.
4/10 @2P FC=2.5,added 60oz of the last of my bleach which should have raised the FC by 5.7
4/11 @2p FC= 3.5 have not had an opportunity to get more bleach
4/13 @9A FC=4
Been running my system @60%
So Also did a salt cell polarity check. (T-9) cell). 28.1V@ 4.29A and 28.1V @4.39A, so I then set my system to super chlorinate @11A for 9hrs(which shutdown time is 8P)
Based on my cell specs, 9 hours should have increased the FC by 6.2.
FC tested at 830P was 3.5, now I am leaning towards a cell issue. I will look at it in the morning and also get some more bleach to increase FC to between 8 and 10FC and see if the cell output will maintain my FC

Still trying to get FC to stay up. so this morning(4/15) after adding 81oz of bleach at 7P the night before. My system had already shut off so I turned the pump on manually to circulate at 800RPM about an hour. I noticed at the lower RPM I was seeing a lot of gas bubbles coming from the the first return.
Tested next morning(4/15) at 9A FC was 11. Pmp RPM 1500(my normal). Not much in the way of bubbles..
Tested again at 330P before I had to go to work, FC was 3.5. Could not see any bubbles coming from the return, switched to 800 RPM and had a lot of bubbles. Played with SC and auto setting. Inspect cell led came on, Reset led and the avg and instant reading went to 2600. Put system in super chlorinate to run till shut off time of 8P.
I will do a salt test in the morning and call Hayward tech support. I have about 6 months warranty left on the cell.
Sorry to be so wordy, but there is a lot going on here.

There'll be others with more SWCG experience -- to my knowledge, as long as pump is circulating water (and flow sensor allows SWCG to produce) then there's no additional benefit to running VSP at higher speeds, at least as far as FC generation is concerned.

I'm also in North Texas and have noticed strong FC depletion during the day due to strong sunshine/UV. Currently in the process of raising my CYA levels up to what's recommended for SW pools. Shooting for 60ppm to start.

I'm running an Aquarite S340 now that I've added salt last week. I had at 50% production but my FC levels leapt up pretty high for a bit, so I'm trying 25% now to see if I can sustain where I need to be for FC/CYA range. Pretty sure I'll need to bump back up (or higher) once we hit the heat of the summer...
