blower plate metal failure around igniter

Looking for any recommendations on what to do here. So in the process of changing my igniter on my Max Etherm 333 the metal around the igniter failed. As you can see in the photo there is now a small maybe quarter inch gap allowing heat to escape. The heater is working now but i'm afraid this heat could damage the wires above. The pool repair man said due to the labor involved in changing the plate he'd rather not deal with it but recommended maybe some high temp silicone. Any thoughts.

heater is about 7 years old.No issues
to date other than sensors needing to be replaced from salt water corrosion.
Your sensors were not damaged due to "salt water corrosion" unless you have water with a salinity of the ocean, about 125,000PPM. The proper amount of salt in a pool with an SWG is about 3% of that, or about 3500PPM. Your tears are 6 times as salty. It is much more likely that your pH and alkalinity were/are very bad and/or you have a tablet feeder somewhere after the heater.

You are dealing with pressurized combustion-chamber temperatures that are very high. That cover has been subject to a lot of water from somewhere to cause that kind of rust on the entire assembly.

The only safe repair to that heater is to replace the entire cover, part 474958. It will require the entire top of the heater to be dis-assembled and then re-assembled. A bit expensive, but if the rest of the heater is good it may be a good alternative.
