Polaris Quattro P40 Turns in Circles - Deep End Only

We've had a Polaris Quattro P40 for a few years now. All of a sudden the unit will no longer come out of the deep end and just turns in circles (turns to the right). It doesn't tip over, just turns. If we put the unit in the shallow end it goes straight back to the deep end with a few seconds. Nothing has changed - same pump, hose, etc. I double checked the wheel RPM and it's right at 32 RPM per minute and the hose is in good shape (no leaks, kinks, etc.).

Would appreciate any suggestions on next troubleshooting steps.

I haven't seen this particular problem. But all Polarises are prone to propulsion issues. Check the tires are good (not worn) and are on straight, all the wheels are turning properly. Make sure the baskets are empty. All that stuff, etc., etc. You could try fiddling with the rear directional jet, but that doesn't seem to do much.

Worst case, your local pool shop might be able to repair it for you.

The gearbox was bad so I replaced and all seems good now - well, except I think the bearings on the booster pump might be going. UGH.

Anybody have any thoughts on going to a robotic cleaner? A couple people have suggested the Pentair Prowler 920/930W or one of the Dolphin models (Premier, Sigma, Quantum). Would welcome any suggestions.
