Aiper Seagull Pro recall

Curious, did Aiper send a shipping notice or did the S1 just show up? They received my Seagull on the 25th and I have heard nothing. I've emailed asking for status.

so I complained saying the charger was getting super hot when charging the scuba s1...their reply is to send me an updated seagull pro....I refused that....told them they should have offered a scuba pro to the people who had been hit with the recall....

Is the "updated" Pro safe? I'd rather have it.

Looking at the "updated scuba pro" it looks to have been downgraded with a smaller battery and slower charger anyhow. The only positive update looks to be the addition of the small wheel in the center

Given that the charge time has doubled and the battery life has shrunk by 25%, I'd guess that the "updated" Pro is safe. My guess is that Aiper didn't initially offer the Pro as an update because from a specifications perspective, it appears closer to the original Scuba Plus, for which anyone with an older Pro paid a premium to have the "better" product. The longer charge time and shorter battery life will likely be apparent to someone that's been using one of the original pro models for the last couple of years.

Did you buy a gasoline powered pool robot? Let’s see that beast run!!!!

Hmmm, fortuitous timing here. Opened our pool two days ago and our Polaris 380 has gone to it's final resting place. Incredibly, it was almost 20 years old so no complaints here. We've replaced parts here and there over the last 10 years since we bought the house, but now the motor has died. Hubby opened it up and the plastic parts were literally breaking as he touched them. So we decided to explore the robotics and literally just looked at the Aiper Scuba S1. No extended warranties available (that's a red flag for me) and after reading JoyfulNoise's comment - maybe the dinosaur route is the way to go! We'd have some "spare parts" available. Or, thought of hooking up my Ebike to the broken vac and pedaling to power the old Polaris! Thoughts? Without a great deal of research it seems like 2 year life span is the norm and lugging 20+ pounds of vacuum out of the water doesn't sound like my kind of R&R by the pool Unrelated but must say - boy oh boy does TFP ROCK! I'll post a pic in the correct forum, but opened the pool to find barely a scum line of algae and had I left a quarter on the bottom of the pool I would have been able to see it! Many thanks for the endless great guidance and a bellyful of saltwater laughs!

Small sample size here, but I recvd the Scuba S1 about a week ago and have used it 4 times since. I'm very happy with it (as long as it last 3yrs, which is 1yr beyond the warranty date). The charger itself gets very warm even when not plugged into the robot, but I have other chargers that do the same thing. I just keep a mental note not to leave them plugged in and to charge outside. The plug port for the robot is not waterproof which is the dumbest thing ever, so make sure you let it fully dry before charging. And the filter will catch 95% of everything in the pool, but I'm with exploring 50 micron fishtank filters to catch the fine silt/dirt that gets thru.

Again small sample size, it's only a week, but I got it on sale and if I can get 3yrs out of it I'd be pretty happy.

I mitigate some of the charging risk by having the robot plugged into a controlled outlet (for me we had an extra relay on our intellicenter but it would be easy to do with any smart outlet) , for the Pro i had it set to on from 7pm to 9pm so it was only charging while i was awake. Since the Scuba takes twice the charging time i have upped this to 5pm to 9pm

"The plug port for the robot is not waterproof which is the dumbest thing ever".....after all the issues they have had with the Seagull Pro would think they would address this

I am running into an issue with the s1 as my transition from deep to shallow is too steep so if running floor only, as soon as it gets to the deep end it will not ascend back to shallow. I reached out with this concern and they replied that I need a firmware update which is supposed to be available via OTA update with the app however it appears only the 2025 models connect to the app and the S1 i received is a 2024 model . Awaiting their reply

Isn't the S1 Pro the only one with a mobile app? But either should go up a ramp, since they climb walls.

the "2025" s1 has bluetooth and wifi but just for ota updates, I think mine may be the 2024 version which does not appear to.
In floor/wall mode it will go up the ramp to the shallow end during the "wall" operation but it doesnt end up getting the full shallow end as it goes straight to the wall. In eco mode which seemed like the place the s1 might shine as the seagull pro didn't have it, the s1 is supposed to clean the floor only for 45 minutes every 48 hours. It seems the ramp as a wall and so once it hits the deep end it will not go back to the shallow end.
