I bought 8 bottles a few days ago from Menards. $4.99/per bottle (128 oz.) for 12.5%! Last season, they were $3.99 each, but even with the price increase, it’s still way cheaper than anywhere else in my area by far — and most of those places only sell 7.5% or 10%. I’m just complaining because I’m not lucky like you SWG people!
I’ll be a jug lugger for at least one more summer lol!

I do!! But things are so expensive! I looked at some used/barely used SWGs on Facebook Marketplace. They looked like they were in great shape and the price is obviously substantially lower than buying one brand new. I’d love to hear your opinion! @Newdude and any other SWG people can chime in, too. Just keep in mind, I am on a budget. HOWEVER — my cheap self can make exceptions for some things (floats don’t grow on trees, you know!

). The ones I found that were gently used, I actually searched in this forum and saw mostly positive feedback from my TFP peers. The SWGs I am referring to are still quite pricey (by MY standards — y’all are elite pool people 
) despite being used, but still way less than buying it brand new. I know changing the cell is something I see frequently talked about here. One of them said the cell was changed last summer, but they are moving and no longer will have a pool, thus selling it. What are your thoughts, my fellow salty besties? Any specific questions I should ask the seller(s)? Should I just make a post about this in the SWG forum? I am a bit intimidated lol
Open yesterday and got my chemistry right today after pump ran for 24hrs. I too spent a lot of time vacuuming out worms!

I used my intex swcgs (i had 2 on my 26k gal pool- 1 on each return) for a long while before I finally got a big girl unit that i aquired from a family member and just needed a new cell. There are adapters to hook intex to normal pool hoses.
Tell us the specs of what you’re looking at (brand, model & size) & the price for opinions of the brain trust lol. I personally wouldn’t pay more than 50% of the new price for a used unit.
You have a 7k gal pool so you want a 15k gallon rated unit or larger.

Beautiful!! I uncovered my pool a couple weeks ago. If you go back a few pages in this thread, you’ll see what it looked like as soon as I removed the cover and before scoping or doing anything (not bad since I closed November 1st — and accidentally above SLAM level by quite a lot
lol), but no circulation or filtration for a couple weeks was scaring me, but thankfully my FC was around 11ppm after removing the cover. Today, we FINALLY hooked all of the equipment up, added about 6 inches of hose water. Pump will be running all night/day so I’ll be testing the water tomorrow when it’s well-mixed lolThank you for participating in my thread!

Third opening. Gets better each year. We'll see soon if SLAM is required. A brief one, I expect. Could have gone a week earlier, but had freezing temps in the past week.

I woke up this morning with a funny feeling to check the sump pump under the pool, it wasn’t pumping after our big rain. The well had water in it so I threw another sump in. Then I opened the cover to make sure the liner had not floated over the winter and was shocked to see that I had lost about a foot and a half of water! So I spent my morning on my belly hanging over the side of the pool with food coloring. Could not find anything. Filling her back up. Will probably have to open early this year and turn the heat on so I can get in with my snorkel and mask. 
I’m so sad! This is our 7th season with our pool, we had it built and have never had a leak before.
The good news, I guess, is that it’s still clear as can be!!

I can't even hang with you guys. I do not trust central PA to be out of the freeze for good so I've got a couple more weeks to wait. Probably after Easter.
I almost don't even want to look at the amount of worms and associated worm dirt that are in there.
For now, I will live vicariously through you. You have some amazing looking pools!

water 54 degrees I able to turn the SWG on. Get some chlorine in there. Need to still add more CYA and a bit more salt to get up to 3200. I'm at 2900 now.
I get 10 lashes with a wet noodle for not getting a pic, but i was too busy dry heaving, so.
I had a ridiculous amount of worms upon opening recently. I did not want to vac them up for their guts to be smushed into the cartridges until it was warm enough to hose them off. So I've been gently brushing once a day to get the bulk of the winter crud to a smaller area to vac it to waste while waiting for the rain to give me some extra water. I had both well covered today and sent the bulk of it to waste.
The pump basket was full to the brim with mangled worms when I went to empty it afterwards.

I still have my safety cover installed and the water temperature is still increasing. Today it is 69F. I turned on the equipment 9 days ago when the water temperature was 58F.

Have you considered vacuuming the old fashioned way by vacuuming through your skimmer using a vacuum hose and vacuum head on an extension pole? Put a hairnet or skimmer sock in the skimmer basket to catch all the worms you vacuum up.
That's what I did. There was only a couple leaves in the pool so I didn't bother with the skimmer plate / basket and put the vac hose right to the skimmer pipe.
There was no need with sending it to waste. I can only imagine how many bloated mushy worms got eviscerated by the pump basket, further eviscerated by the impeller and are now fertilizing my grass.
I would have (over) filled with the hose to be able to vac to waste if no rains came. It's still pretty cold here so I was in no rush and waited it out.

The water level was well below the skimmer and above the return jets. I’m hoping no water got into the pipes! We are having a lot of rain and severe storms right now, but when things calm down the bucket test is a good idea!Maybe one of your plugs/connections was seeping?
