Just uncovered the pool. It's going to be 88F here today and pool is at 62F.
Noticed a good growth of green algae starting.

Pool guys are coming to get it started next week but I was curious if it made sense to throw a gallon or two of bleach in now while i brush the algae etc to prevent further growth?

FC is currently 0
and I'd assume I have zero CYA at this time

Do you have a submersible to mix for you ? Use that to stir, along with brushing, and add 5ppm a day to help it not get worse.

If you are physically capable of uncovering the pool, (already done anyway), the rest is stoopid easy if you want to save some big bucks.

Post pics of everything relevant and we can walk you through it.

agreed entirely! sadly, i dont have the right set of clamps to take out the bypass and reinstall the salt water cell (i tried).

i brushed the entire pool and ran the robot for about 4 hours. then put in 2 gallons of 7.5% bleach and CYA granules to get it up to around 70.
will keep it running and see how it goes.

already looking much clearer.

The $19 jumbo channel lock pliers at harbor freight or Home Depot will save you big every last year. No need for the expensive models, the cheap ones are near indestructible.

CYA may take 24 hours to mix after the winter. The robot is great to move some bleach around but I wouldn't trust it for CYA, salt or CH.

Raising your CYA just raised your slam targets too. If soaking in a sock, go pull the sock.

I used a (rubber) strap wrench for years and found it much easier to go gentle with the big pliers.

Either does the job though. (y)

yah regretting the decision to add CYA at this point. taking a lot of bleach but I will get there slowly.
