Prep and advice for the Great Pollening 2025?

Hi all

I’ve seen some references across posts but wanted to charge my plans for critique and suggestion as this is my first time.

The other day I saw the first yellow wisps of the Great Pollening 2025 in Atlanta. If you know you know.

My plan is:
  • Skimmer socks (rinsed daily or more once it gets heavy). I run them anyway (dog hair and pine trees) so no real change other than watching them a few times a day
  • 24 hour circulation at a reasonable speed (maybe 2250? More?)
  • Pulling most of the circulation from the skimmers > the main drain. I figure I’ll leave some for the pollen that sinks so it gets to the filter.
I assume I’ll still run the pressure side cleaner, and all the other circulations as normal (spa and spillover to move and exchange that water).

Will clean the cartridges (once it’s all over? And/or if the pressure goes up or course)

Any other ideas of recommendations?

Your plan is great.

I wouldn't waste any more electricity than was needed with a higher RPM. More water flow also makes more mixing so there is a sweet spot IMO before it becomes counterproductive to jack the RPMs further.

The main drains have almost zero pull even at 100% and you won't see any meaningful help from them. Leave them on just a crack in case the skimmers get overloaded.
 
Didn’t specifically know that about the Main drains but also great to know. Higher rpm mixing makes sense too!

I’m also prepping for screened in porch defense. Too much screen to cover so I set up fans in the door to outside and put the pollen up in the air with a leaf blower (and goggles and a particle respirator) Doesn’t get it all but prevents the 1/4” (yes I measured) accumulation we got one week when we were out of town. Pollen can get in eitby he wind but doesn’t have enough oomph to get back out.
 
I wouldn’t waste money on expensive skimmer socks. I have found that cheap polypropylene hairnets work just fine for pollen and allow better flow rates than the dense skimmer socks. Also, you don’t have to rinse them, just toss them once they’re loaded up and put new ones in.

I leave my safety cover on. Then every few days, I stand along the edge of the pool and use the leaf blower to blow the pollen down into the woods behind the house. Then pray for rain to rinse it away before a wind blows it back.
 
Hahaha the wind is the enemy. I always pray for monsoons hoping it will “knock the pollen out of the trees” but usually it just ends up being yellow rain (and rivulets running down my driveway.

I live, at least for this season, jealous of your safety cover.
