Pool lost a lot of water over winter

My inground pool lost a lot of water and as a result the safety cover ripped from the weight of the snow on it!

The water level now is at or slightly below the last step.

Could this really be a leak or did my pool company forgot to close the main drain valve?!

We had the liner replaced just 3 years ago. Only place I can think of where a leak could be is near the main stairs. Is that a common leak area?

In Ontario, with the water and snow we got, I had to drain the pool 5 times this winter. Your water level should not be low.

Could be a leak. Even if the pool company forgot to close the main drain, that would not cause the water level to lower.

Given the water level is at or slightly below the last steps, the steps are suspect. Yes, it can be a common area for leaks.

Where are the returns and lights relative to the current water level?

Thanks for the insight. The returns and lights are way above the water level now. When they closed the pool they did drain some just below the returns but it lost so much water since.

Yeh in the past years the pool was always full of water after the melt.
Ontario Canada or Ontario California?
Canada.

You have a leak around the stairs.

Stair are are bolted to the steel or polymer panels and are permanent, they are a piece of the pool wall structure. The trim sandwiches the liner to the steps for a seal. Just like anything else in the pool there are holes.

I'd go back to the company that installed the liner and get them to troubleshoot.
