Pool equipment overhaul cost.

Hi All,

Just seeing if this is ballpark for some equipment overhaul. I bought a VSP pump during Leslies free promo for install. Since then I've noticed slow leaks in a lot of fittings and valves- on top of my actuators not functioning. So I inquired about an overhaul of the equipment. I was quoted $1600 for the following work. The main leaks are at the fittings for both check valves and one jandy valve. But I figured since I'm in this deep and I'm removing a pressure side pool cleaner and having new pump, I'd just do it all.

- Install VSP pump
- Replace (2) Jandy 3 way 1.5 x 2 valves.
- Replace (1) Jandy 2 way valve
- Replace (2) Jandy Check valves
- Replace union fittings for swim clear filter
- Replace and program (2) hayward automated actuators
- Replace t-cell fittings
- Remove pressure side plumb in and cap off
- All new pvc plumb from VSP through filter, through heater, and to all return lines.

Includes parts and labor?

3 way $90 x 2
2 way 70
check 35 x 2
Unions 25
Acuators 200 x 2
PVC 50

Parts: $895.

Good rule of thumb is 1x parts for labor. Seems reasonable.

If you post some pictures of your equipment pad from a few angles, we might be able to offer more suggestions for your renovation. Great time to replace any cheap ball valves with high quality diverters. What pump did you get?

Install a bypass for your heater.

Just a word of advice, while looking at your setup the salt cell is lying sideways which is not good. Needs to be righted up with hump on the top or hump on the bottom. For vsp's it's recommended to have the hump inverted, meaning hump facing the floor so that when the flow is low and slow the cell plates will still be fully submerged.

But the rest leak where the pipe meets the valve . The joint is seeping and leaking

If you didn't want a full scale replacement, Plast-aid would be low cost but very effective fix.

I had old Jandy valves that look like the same ones you have. I bought new valves, but just took the face plate and handle off the new valve and replaced the same on the existing valve. It is about a 10 min job per valve. I also see now that they sell aftermarket rebuild kits for the jandy for about $20 each on Amazon

So it’s 80 degrees now and doesn’t appear to be leaking. Is it normal to leak during colder temps like 30-40 and then when it’s warm and expanded to not leak?
O-rings shrink in the cold and leak. That is how we lost the Challenger Space Shuttle.
