New pool with top step already sun stained

Hi everyone, I just had a pool installed last year and the white plaster with the stones in it is already yellowing only on the first step where the water is only a couple inches deep. The builder convinced me to use no color, saying it made the best looking water. Should it be drained to that level and acid washed or can I soak a sponge with acid and scrub it under water. I see they make a kit for removing stains that connects to your vacuum pole with an acid reservoir that seeps into a rough pad to scrub the plaster.

Welcome to TFP.

I would not start by acid washing plaster. Acid washing can damage the plaster. There are less harsh treatments to try first.

Make a paste of crushed vitamin C tablets and put in a sock and rub it on the area and see if the stain lifts.

Almost positive it's the sun because it's no where else except this shallow spot
It’s not the sun. Looks like dirt washed onto the step from rains.

But you can try polishing the step.

Amazon has 4pcs Diamond Hand Polishing Pads Foam Backing Sanding Blocks, Diamond Polishing Pads for Ceramic Tile Glass Wood Marble Grinding, Diamond Sanding Pads 60# in various grits. Use 100# for finer polishing.

Thank you I will try it now. I have some I used to polish the travertine end cuts. But the pebbles are raised on that step pretty high. I know the sand they used to lay the pavers stained the knee wall so it must've had iron in it? Maybe I'll try the C tabs first?
I also have a friend with a large tanning shelf that is totally brown and the rest of the pool looks perfect

Brown stains are usually iron stains.

Try the vitamin c first and then the stain id kit.

Acid will remove plaster holding the pebbles together and can lossen them.

It looks like there is staining on the coping leading onto the step which washed into the pool.

Yes last summer we got 77" of rain in torrential downpours and it probably lifted some of the paver sand before it could drain away from the pool. I remember the pool finisher saying they are supposed to use iron free sand to lay the pavers. Maybe they didn't. Or the pavers themselves have minerals.
