Pool cover overheating water.

Looking for tips.
We’ve got a 15k-gallon saltwater pool with a heat pump and an auto cover. (15x30)
The cover itself is dark opaque grey.

We keep it closed when we’re not swimming for safety and cleanliness. But, this seems to cause a LOT of heat to build in the water - reaching upper 90s water temp.

We’ve considered a large overhead canopy, but that would be a lot of work and be hard to take on/off.
We’ve thought about keeping another tarp over it while not in use, but again, sounds like a pain.

Should we keep it open during the day?

Can we add a light-colored secondary cover that rolls up with the cover itself?

Pictures taken at 9:30am facing west, so it’s full sun most of the day.

I'm assuming you have young children if you have safety concerns. If you can solve your safety issue, then yes I would leave it open during the day. Evaporation is a large percentage of heat losses. Your cover is preventing evaporation.
