My fiberglass pool was installed 3.5 years ago. I always clean above the waterline with magic erasers. It’s always worked like a charm. This year, it was been really hard to get all the discoloration to come off using the magic erasers. Almost like trying to clean a car that hasn’t been waxed in a long time. It’s just a light discoloration of dirt color that accumulates. I didn’t know if some type of fiberglass wax etc would help or if anyone had any suggestions? Thanks! @Texas Splash IMG_2634.jpeg

I'm afraid those of us who are experiencing a faded, chalky gelcoat are destined to live with it. No good explanation as to why some do this and others don't when the chemistry is basically the same. All I can assume IMO is there must be something inconsistent with each batch of the gelcoat, either during the mix or application. That's an assumption, on my part only, based on feedback from our last TFP voting poll. In addition, the science behind it all tells us that the change is inevitable due to the porous nature of the gelcoat. Even those who had their gelcoat reapplied experienced the change.

Thanks for the feedback! I got my magic eraser out again today and it cleaned up the scum great. The last time I did it in spring, the water was still pretty cold. I don’t know if the hot weather makes it work better, or if it isn’t as dirty as it was after winter. Either way, I’m glad it cleaned up nice and easy. Pool looks like new 🤩IMG_2647.jpeg
