SLAM Process not working?

I attempted to start the SLAM process yesterday morning. I added the amount of chlorine pool math told me to add (about 3 gallons). Then checked it 2 hours later and the FC level was down to 2. So I proceeded to add the recommended amounts of liquid chlorine(about 3 gallons)… checked again 2 hours later and FC was back down to 1.5. So I gave up… not sure if I gave up too soon or if the process wasn’t working? What are your thoughts?

My pool is clear, I am just trying to get ride of the high CC.

My latest numbers are posted in the picture. These are from this morning.

Welcome! Let's see if we can get you sorted out.
  • What size / type pool? Please consider completing your profile / signature Signature instructions
  • What test kit are you using and how old are your reagents?
  • What was CYA (stabilizer) reading? This CYA level is relevant and discussed in the Before You Start section of the article.

Welcome to TFP!!!

The process is working, don't stop. It may take several days, or even a week depending on the condition of the pool. You are doing it right. The more often you test the faster it will go...but no more often than every two hours.

Post a picture of the pool so we can see condition.

KEEP GOING!

Oh forgot to write down CYA - it is 30.
Tested with a Taylor Pro test kit bought in April 2024.

Here is my new sig with lots of info.

27,000 gallons | IG (in ground)| Gunite- I think Plaster |Sand Filter| Hayward Pro Series Filter | AO- Smith Pump MOD ST1152, single speed | AO - smith Pump for pool cleaner | Taylor Pro Test Kit - bought April 2024 | No water restrictions |Outdoor pool

Welcome to TFP!

What is the model number of your Taylor test kit?
If unknown, post a picture of the test kit.

What is the date code on the liquid chlorine you are using?

Detail your FC and CC testing procedure.

You are doing great. That date code is from early march...not super old, not super new.

When you see a date code on these, like 24 074, that means the 74th day of 2024. Just divide the 74 by 30 (days in a month), so Jan/Feb and 14 days into march. Look for date codes close to 30 x XX where XX is last months number...

Great kit.

Keep slamming!
