The pump starting making low level noise a few weeks ago- this morning its very loud (still circulating water)- almost unbearably loud. My pool room is located to the side and below the pool (hilly land in Austin, TX)- about 10 feet below the pool level. I’ve removed the basket and don’t see anything stuck- put screwdriver where the impeller is and hit plastic. So I'm assuming its probably the motor bearing. Time is important since its pool weather and kids want to swim.
1) Should I just get a replacement superflo VS (~$1500) and put in myself (I'm pretty decent at DIY) or buy a replacement motor (~$500) and try that?
2) Austin Energy has a $300 rebate for VS pumps- but have to be professionally installed. I wonder if I should just go that route and use the $300 towards a pro?
3) I would assume the plumbing should align? At least the return has the quick disconnects so im thinking it would be easy? I have done some PVC sprinkler work but never really worked with pool PVC.
4) Should I consider 'upgrading' to the pentair whisperflo?
