I have been with this pool for 18 years. It is a DE pool in ground. The past couple years I struggled with the pool being cloudy. This year before opening I replaced the entire inside of the filter. Pump motor was replaced 2 years ago. I’ve checked the valve and spider gasket, which is glued in. The handle was replaced in 2018ish. I have noticed that for the past several years debris and DE are going back into the pool in filter and recirculate positions. Not as much debris is going in on recirculate position. It lasts for about 30ish seconds then stops. I don’t know what to check now. I can use all the help I can get.

On recirculate all the water does is go into the valve and back to the pool, bypassing the filter tank. When was the last time the filter was opened? Was the air-relief screen intact or even there? Which filter do you have? Are all the grids still good, no holes or tears? How much DE is in the tank? Has the filter been backwashed recently?

The filter has been opened and cleaned a week ago and the entire grid assembly is brand new. I back wash everyday currently because the pressure on the filter keeps going up to 25psi. Now that the pool is clear, mostly, I will open filter and clean the grid assembly again. DE is good, I’ve tried to put in 1lb per square feet but it’s always to much. Some of it will come into the pool. I replace the entire grid assembly because I had this problem last year and my pool was never clear. This year it’s clear but when I backwash and go back to filter debris is going back into the pool. Air relief screen? I’m not sure what that is.

The grid pictures are before I cleaned it after cleaning the pool after opening. I cleaned it then started filter again. Did not fix debris problem.

Second and third picture in the array. Looks like the grid is not set completely in the manifold. Maybe the wing nut is not tightened enough. You can see debris trying to get into the manifold at the neck of a grid. Last picture shows a grid properly in the manifold port. Those grid assemblies take a lot of patience and experience to get all 8 set properly in the manifold and the bottom spreader.

I didn’t even notice that and I had it open again today. I guess I’m going back in to check it out. Thank you for pointing that out!
