Pool deck slopes off on two sides. Possible engineering issue or nothing to worry about?

Excuse the mess of landscaping. The previous owner neglected anything outside of the pool fence.

Our backyard is built up to be level with our house and the yard on the right side, but slopes off just outside of our pool fence on the left and back sides.

If enough erosion occurs it's possible the concrete slab could start moving. Any concerns with the pool exerting outward pressure? I'm not 100% on how vinyl pools are constructed or if there are any supports built in.

I know this is probably a question for an engineer but figured someone here might have some insight as well. Thanks

dcp,

I'm not sure as it depends a little on how the vinyl is supported. Most of the ones I'm familiar with have an outer wall structure that should prevent the liner from bulging out. That said it looks to me your slopes are a good candidate for erosion. There are a couple ways to address this but you want no more than 5:1 slop. Usually this requires more fill and some grading. Do you have enough room on your lot to do this? You can also get erosion control fabric/plastic inserts that go in under the sod to help control erosion to support the sod which also forms it's roots to help with control I would consult a landscaper if you can't do this yourself. Depending on your jurisdiction you may need a building permit and licensed contractor to perform this work.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks, I have some hardscape guys coming out to give estimates and take a look. Then I’m going to get an independent engineer to let me know what they think before paying someone to build a wall. Probably going to be expensive
