Hello everyone,

This year when I started my pool after the winter my pool pump (22 years old) started to leak. So I bought the same thing just newer model. I have a Carvin Magum 1-1/2 HP and purchased a Carvin Enerjet 1-1/2 HP one speed pump. With the old pump my system was running at about 17 PSI under normal load. The new one runs at 21 PSI under normal load. It was smooth sailing for about 2 weeks. Today when I came home the skimmer basket was full the debris (had a pretty good storm), I have a floor drain in the deep end as well. Empty the basket and went to the pump. The pump is running fine but there it doesn't filled all the way (as it used to), there is about 1/4 inch of air in it. But no bubbles out of the return and no other signs of anything else. I feel like this pump is demanding too much water for what the system can deliver. Or you guys have any ideas? I can post picture tomorrow during the daytime.

Thanks

Having a full skimmer basket can starve the pump of water. Also, could there be a small blockage in the suction line due to leaves?
The other alternative is a small suction side leak.

I feel so stupid now..... In my new pump I have a small pipe that remove the air at the top of the clear dome. It was plugged with a few tree small acorn. This morning it hit me to check it out. Obstruction removed and not it is working as before. See picture below.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for sharing. I don’t recall seeing that device in a pump basket. It appears to work - so great.
