Hi folks,

this has been an amazing forum for a pool newbie. On my 2nd year with a 25k gallon saltwater pool connected to pentair intellicenter, pentair salt chlorinator and the master temp 400 heater. 1st year we outsourced weekly maintenance to a professional company, decided to try to do it myself this year and its been 'interesting'. Everything worked perfectly when the pool was closed last season, and the pool company just opened the pool this past Tuesday - we are retaining them just for open/close the pool and doing weekly maintenance ourselves.

Basically my intellicenter says heat is on, but blank screen on the heater. So, I was going through all the troubleshooting suggestions from previous posts and was just about to a) check the fuse b) remove the connection to the intellicenter and connect the two yellows to see if heater powers up c) order new membrane and circuit board.

But, on instinct I followed the black cable from the heater to the intellicenter and lo-and-behold there is a break in it. So, that seems to be the major issue. Two questions -

1) what kind of cable do I need to buy to replace this one. a special one form pentair or something basis from an electric store
2) other posts have implied that animals may chew on these cables. none of the other cable are broken, and please take a look at the pictures attached. is this a natural wear and tear break, an animal at work, or human intervention.

Thanks for your input and help.

The MasterTemp Installation Manual specifies to use 18 gauge wire with a minimum 3/64” (1.2mm) thick insulation rated for a temperature rise of at least 105°C. The area the wire passes through can get hot and melt wire insulation.

Thanks folks. Can I just wingnut these together and cover with electrician tape - or do I need to replace the whole wire ?
Replacing the wire should not be a big deal.

You can splice the wire until you get it replaced. The splice should be waterproof that takes more then wrapping it with electrical tape.

That wire carry’s the 24V that powers the heater. Eventually the splice will cause problems with the heater running.
